I think back on my days of skipping class to smoke weed in the park and laugh. I just recently went back to see how the school is doing, and the same old things are happening. I smoked with on of the kids there and she told me how boring the town was, reminiscing on how she'd go to the football games at witter and throw butter at the cops to get laughs, Sounds like the same old stuff.

Great site Mike, except I can't believe someone had to ask what a "hairy" was. Is anyone out there from 1973. Would love to hear from people. Since we missed our 25-year reunion, maybe someone can start planning a 30th and get a head start.

Calling all classmates from the class of 1970. As far as I'm concerned, the only significant thing about the year 2000,is that we will be celebrating our 30th PHS reunion. Forget about the second coming, the new millinium, the new age, old age, building bridges... we need to party! Since I have moved to Utah, it has been harder for me to get involved with our last couple of events. Thanks to cyber-space, I feel that distance is much less problematic. I would appreciate names, addresses, email addresses phone and fax numbers of anyone in our class. I would also love to hear suggestions for our reunion... where, when, what etc. As always, a commitee needs to be formed, so let me know who wants to volunteer. So far there is myself, Jane Witter, Conrad Bassett, of course I can put Dean Miller on here and why not Hillery Paterson while I'm at it! This is the tired old group, so let's get some new blood in here for some real fun! Number one right now is compiling a current address list. Thanks - Katie

To All PHS Varsity Football Alums:
Friday night, September 11th is the opening night of the new Witter Field with a game against Campolindo. If you haven't seen it, it is beautiful. New field house, new baseball field with GRASS infield, new softball field where Wildwood playground was, and a beautiful stadium for football. That night there will be a reception at the Community Center (5-7) honoring past coaches (Muenter will be there) and there will be a halftime or pregame show where all the football alums will be announced as they walk on the field. The cost is $50 which includes the reception, a ticket to the game, and a donation to PHS Boosters. If you can't make it, let any of your friends who might be interested know. Afterwards we go down to where Confucious was and sing songs to Bing. Or to the Surf Club. Need more info, email me. See you there.

In Support of the Exalted Ruler
As webmistress of the Class of '78 site, I hereby concur with His Highness. Those of us who maintain web sites also have lives that include careers, loved ones, recreation, sleep, travel and more. DuFloth has done all past PHS community members a service by keeping this site up and as current as one can expect. A great deal of information was passed through this site for our recent reunion. One of the biggest challenges AHS is communication, this site helps meet that challenge. Thank you Brother D. And please continue our connection for the time being. We are still looking for people for the 30th and wish to show off some of our party photos (just as soon as we get that film developed!)

Ok ... here is that response you were looking for Doug Miller ... Let me first say, there are no statues built in memory of critics .... now that I have that out of the way and you can see you have pissed me off with your critical comments about this board it should be noted that you are welcome to present your own idea of Piedmont High on the web and I will gladly link to your site which will no doubt have someone to respond to all the postings ... I do in fact respond to many of them and I have been told that many Highlander grads use this board to write to others and find old long lost pals ... finally I would also point out that ....yes, it is quite possible someone is looking to find Bob Muenter, and if you have that contact information, then write them back with it .... that is in a nutshell how this board works but I would be happy to have you (Doug Miller) respond to all ... simply give me a call and I will give you the password and login for this site and you can have a field day as the hairynet webmaster .................. ONE FINAL NOTE ... Just in case I didn't get a chance to tell you this in high school ..... BITE ME DOUG!

Aw now look! Somebody needs to take charge of this portion of the page and answer more of the questions posted. Having a comment page with no one in charge of responding is like farting in a bottle. (Or is it like getting into a pissing contest with a skunk? I can't remember.) Of course, it might not be necessary to respond to *every* comment. (E.g., is someone seriously looking for Bob Muenter? Is someone seriously asking whether Bill Parker always favored Rainier?) I note that the class of '78 reunion starts today or tomorrow. I missed my 20th in '94, but I hope to be forgiven for that. Well, I gotta hand it to you, Michael...what a "hairy" page to check out. When I read over the comments, I return to my young, punk hairy self again, knowing that your classmates were a bunch old hairies in my day and still are. After all, you guys found the lawn - I just sat on it (or passed out on it certain nights).
Back in January, I moved to Chico, CA after living in Hawaii for a couple of years working (and diving) on Oahu. Got fat from eating too many poo poo's. Have recently married (Kim's band played at the reception and we all sang "White Bird" together.) Have finally settled down (again). Chico is a great town but its not Piedmont - they don't know how "tough" it was being a hairy.
Looking forward to hearing from any classmates (1973)or anyone else I know who plays the web strings.
VERY IMPORTANT, Anyone who has Bob Muenter's phone number or address, PLEASE send ASAP to my e-mail listed below. I need to get in touch with him.
Thanks again, Michael, for the good time at the industrial bar-b-que.

Well, I must say that for me and for those truly in the know, Piedmont is indeed the Home of the Blues...growing up there and being exposed to certain influences there during the late '60's, one could hardly help but feel they were at the epicenter of all that was blues. With such icons as Dave Smith, Jim Foreman, Rich Butler, Steve Flegal and maybe most especially Doug Duncan, one would have had to have been living in a cultural vacuum not to have been affected. Even Alan Harvey was not immune. The day he threw a chair at Dean Miller in Stage Band proved right then and there that the "Harv" was one of us. I would suggest to Ms. Bohan-Jacobs that she finally and ultimately tap into what is rightfully hers: a tradition and culture so rich, so funky, so damn BLUE! Don't be ashamed! Be proud of your roots! Get out that fiddle of yours and rip some blues. It may take a bit of visualization...but it's there for you and for all the rest of us fortunate enough to have lived through and survived.

Okay- I can't not say this. As a person who was raised in Oakland, musically trained with the likes of John Faddis, I have a hard time thinking of Piedmont as the Home of the Blues. A brief hello to all those who were fortunate to have grown up in Piedmont, or whose parents did so. My initial comment is, Piedmont is and always will be a state of mind, as well as a physical location within whose boundaries lie Piedmont High, Home of the Blues. I plan to interject more commentary on this subject at a later date, but I would like to thank a few people for giving me the strength and fortitude to continue to uphold the fine Piedmont tradition of blues guitar, including Jim Forman, Dave Smith, and of course Kim Gimbal, Russ Milenbach, and Scott Mills. I also shoud not leave out such trailblazers as Rich Butler and Mark Pyne, who set certain standards that all came after could look as a beacon of light in the east bay mist. More on all this at another time. Love to all, and hello fellow T-Birds, Scotty Guitar.

But now that I've found some of you...could someone tell me -- did you really wear sailor-type outfits as uniforms? Delightful little page you all have going here! Yesterday's "Hairys" are today's "Parkies", often remembered by the assistant principal,Mr. Creek's journeys to the path behind the science buildings to make sure that no one had stepped "over the line" with any type of "tobacco". Also the object of the statement of a Not So Poor Little Rich Girl as the Parkies invaded her home, "All you dirty Parkies need to leave!" Ahh, it is nice to know that old habits die hard in the lovely little haven known as Piedmont, CA. (We Are [Still] Piedmont's Fighting Clansmen, Class of 1997!)

Amusing to read over the mail after 28 years of not living in the area. Were Jean Rowe and Jane Witter the only good lookers in our class, Mike Dufloth? There were a few quiet ones that the radiator gang made comments to. Has anyone checked to see if Mrs. May the librarian is still there and still saying "Shhhhhhhhh". Does anyone remember Adrian DeWolf and Delia McGaughey turning off the library lights at lunch?

Bill (Slick Willie) Parker has gone down in the annals of Piedmont High School lore as a loud-mouthed dude who knew his stuff both in the classroom and on the hardwood as floor general of the Fightin' Clan hoop teams of the 1970's. This man also knew his beer - quite well, actually. My question: was Mr. Parker always a fan of Ranier Ale, the brew which became his trademark during the latter days of his reign over the social studies department? I feel confident that you hairy dudes can help me out on this one.

Thanks for the nostalgic visit to the Hairy Lawn and the Brew Crew of years gone by.
Perhaps we should get all of the swingin Hairys to get together and persuade Conrad Bassett to hold another Bassett Invitational Golf Tournament.
Dean Miller can take the pics. I'll bring the beer for the front nine!

Being a class of 97 grad and a two year student of Ms. Diane Stone, I was wondering if anyone else had her when she was younger and maybe less bitter about the world? Was that possible? Go Highlanders.

I was visiting my sister Melinda and visited the page. Would like to say hello to all the Piedmont grads. I'd like to thank Big Mike for creating this web page. Thanks to Katie for the get well message. To Phil: Mud Bowl game at the Piedmont field, or the Hairy lawn. You can find Tobias at Perry's on Union Street, but I'll have to watch the game because of injured achilles tendon. Goodbye for now.

My brother, Paul Conover, was one of the original hairys. Because of guys like him, the younger generation of hairys were somewhat intimidated to go into the darker reaches of Piedmont Park's canyons for the first time. If anyone remembers some of his antics, please e-mail me some stories. His 19 year old daughter is coming to visit Calif. in June. I want some truely hidious stories to share. Thanks guys. Great Page. Good to know that not all tradition has died at PHS. Long live the Highlanders and the Scottish tradition. Keep up the good work.

Hey everyone...just wanted to publicly thank Mike Dufloth for carting me around in his Jaguar yesterday...I hadn't realized what fun shopping could be until strolling through Costco with Big Mike...The free sample stations took a pretty good hit...those egg-rolls and corn dogs were delicious!.... And a large HELLO to Hairys everywhere! Kim Gimbal

I was reading my 1966 Clan-O-Log and Judy Murphy left this advice: Even when you are 50, remember "THE BALD SOPRANO"! Since she is approaching 50 (December 22) I was wondering where she was and if she remembered......

Hello Brethren and Sistern:Yes, those guys hanging out with me in that picture are Willie Mays and Leon "Daddy Wags" Wagner of Giant fame in the 60s. I took a picture with them because I couldn't find Tom LaFaille or Outtasight Tim Kress. We have made it back to California after a seven year adventure in Connecticut. Even El Nino is better than snow and ice and cold and no leaves on trees until May. Saw Coach Muenter the other day at Moraga Country Club...told him I was still officiating football and he said I probably have spent more time on a football field in one quarter as an official than I did in four years at PHS. He is right. Anyway, thanks to Mike for perpetuating the Hairy Image and a thumbs down to Karsant for not having the super bowl luncheon this year even though I was in Colorado and couldn't have been here anyway. See you in Reno.

Its good to see that the oldschool piedmont clan is back in the swing of things. This new generation of piedmont clicks is a joke. Its time to bring back the original flavor. Of course they might not be able to handle that... lets go to the park before class.. that helps.-jd
