I graduated in 1967, but have lost all touch with everyone. My whatever happened to list could go on forever. I was really into Drama, particularly the Peter Strauss Era 63-66. 12 Angry Men and the Bald Soprano. Anyone remember?

I am sitting here in the brand new P.H.S. libary and looking back on the history of clubs in Piedmont when we found your web page. Just to tell you the KAPA Clan has long been distroyed by the RIGMA LIONS and now all we have at P.H.S is the Rigma's and Kimmer's. I am sorry that the clubs of long ago have died and now the remaining two clubs are on the verge of extinction. Please help us to return to glory. Tell your kid's and grandchildern to return the tradition.Only with your help can we return Piedmont High back into the School that it was!!!! Rigma lions 1997-1998

Wow, I see the old guestbook has gotten a lot of attention since I last checked in...Hi Margaret, and Hi Marty...and hello to all of you young Piedmont types...you must be quite amused at what your forbearers were up to thirty years ago...we had a hell of a time...I challenge any current Piedmont students to give all of us older hairys a run for our money as far as general insanity goes...what are you up to now-a-days?...if your anitcs are anywhere near as zany as ours were, you'd better keep it all to yourselves until the year 2025 or so...bye for now...Kim

Well, brother Bill just sent me this address. Pretty cool idea. I see none of us has gotten any more respectable with age. I have a niece at PHS and a daughter in college. Plus one in kindergarden. Some us are slow learners. Arghhh! Class of 71.

Feeling the urge to have my name written down in this guestbook, I sign.
I was an echange student to Piedmont in 90/91, coming from the Netherlands.
I am interested to hear from anyone that knows me from that year.

Dear Brian... Welcome to HairyNet ... as the exalted ruler of the Hairy Lawn Brotherhood and one who LOST the campaign for PHS president to Jim Kurkjian in 1969, I am quite qualified to tell the Hairy story. Back in 1965, probably when the term "high school harry" was made popular in literature of the day, we at Piedmont High began to refer to PHS grads who hung around town at the lawn where the Chinese bus stop is at the very top of Wildwood and Sheridan, as "Hairys."
The way I heard it from Pete Horner, one of 1970s' most famous grads, was like this ... "they don't shave, they have long hair (it was the end of the hippy revolution), and they are not going to college, or were matriculating (Waxdeck's most used word on the Johnny Carson Show while promoting the bird-calling contest) at Laney... that's a hairy. If you were Jane Witter, Jean Rowe, or Verona Mhoon (3 most desirable grads of 1970) and you brought a hairy home for dinner, your mom might say, "you're not planning on marrying this high school hairy are you."
So there you have it, Brian ... the living history of the origin of the PHS hairy. I'm sure you still have a place where grads who don't leave hang out in town .. a place where the police know it's just a bunch of the local rich kids hanging out and they'd leave them alone to get into mischief. The Hairy Lawn was very popular on holidays when returning grads, back from college, would meet up other returnees and their less fortunate pals still stuck in Piedmont and easy to find at the Hairy Lawn.... At that time in history we would all go down to Confucius Bar on Lakeshore Ave., where minors from Piedmont were served courteously and promptly and we'd reminisce over our glory-days-of-high-school stories.... and in the true spirit of hairyhood ... share rumors and innuendo of other high school hairy's, desperately hoping to hear and revel in some ghastly news about some poor slob of a hairy who had made a fool of him or herself. Suffice to say ... a thin-skinned hairy didn't last long. We would haze them into a personality crisis just as we did in high school. ... Truly, The Hairy Lawn Brotherhood ultimatey came from a long-standing tradition of Highlander snobbery and condescension on ANYONE who did not fit the mold... and let me assure you there were many who collapsed under the scrutiny and many, like myself who did not, and many who did not know or care because they were drunk or stoned, or needed to get away from the Piedmont High experience as fast as possible in hopes of establishing some sort of self-esteem and sense of belonging. ... But I digress, hairys are a bunch of grads from the classes of 1964 - 1974 who could dish it out as well as they could take it and all became friends over time..........Respectfully submitted

Hey, everyone...things are grooving along as usual up here in the woods. We should all take advantage of the fine work Big Mike has done on the Hairy
Page here by keeping in touch as often as possible. I was actually in Piedmont last weekend hanging out with Mills, Beck, Duncan, Hagen, Moreira, Cuyler and Bowhay. I drove by the Hairy Lawn and then immeadiately down to New Rex for a six-pack of Coors. Drove back up to the Lawn and consumed it listening to The Sons of Champlain and my Woodstock CD. When I closed my eyes I could see Bob Tobias and Carol Holt...yowch...!! When I opened my eyes the local cops were there pointing out the no parking signs and wanted to know who the hell I was!! I told them I was their worst nightmare returning home after almost thirty years. They asked me if my name was Jim Polse..I said no and they let me go...
The Piedmont tradition is alive in Chico! Living in the area are of course, Big Mike, Scott Pressman, Susie Caig, my sister Shannon, my folks, and of course myself...the fine tradions of Piedmont are being passed onto our kids. Dufloth's kid, my daughter and Scott's three year old have already the proper attitude...they're gorgeous and seem to know it all already...more later, gang...Kim Gimbal

Jeez Mike I can't remember much about anything 25 years ago. I was thinking about Dale Zenor's GTO the other day, along with his Triumph TR-4 and his Lotus Elan. Guy had some cool cars. Waxdeck's Marine Bio trips were interesting, he and Worth would excuse themselves for a few pops while we took core samples at Point Reyes. I remember Flegal christening the Shack after too much Colt 45. Also Roger White's portable record player in the park across the street from my house playing Electric Flag music. Jimmy Forman playing the old Byrds song, Feel a Whole Lot Better, or that band that used to play the old Otis Redding song, Try a Little Tenderness. Thats enough for now.

Hello Hairys ...
How are you doing? I live in Sacramento, CA
Randy Leefeldt and our daughter Ashley and I just spent three weeks in
Europe.
It was lovely. Now Ashley and I are off for a month in Carmel. Then Ashley
begins 9th grade...no Anna Heads for our girl. The last two years Ashley was
in middle school with a principal from Piedmont, Lynn Burman, Audrey's
sister.
Small world!
Here's wishing you well, Mike, and hoping to hear what you are up to.
Fondly,
Verona

Brethren and Sistern:
We are moving back to California albeit forsaking Piedmont for Moraga and the burbs in late August. I understand other hairies do live there and it is acceptable as long as one does drive into Piedmont and bow at the shrine of the Chinese Bus Stop at least once a month while in a minivan. Please send email whenever...this is my business email address and we will have new one at home after we get to CA.

Poor Rich-Boy Syndrome If you've ever felt even the slightest bit disadvantaged and burdened down by all the abusive advantages and opportunities that were oftentimes just given to you, then sign up today for the Poor Little Rich Boy Syndrome Conference. This year's keynote speaker is Jimmy Polse, who will take you back through memory lane and the millions he threwaway. If one of your greatest assets is also the biggest burden you bear then let this relaxing weekend workshop lift the monkey off your back forever. Learn the value and respect for money you never understood and forgive yourself for pilfering the stuff Piedmont is made of. It's OK to be a "poor little rich boy."
