To our exalted internet ruler, Mike DuFloth...thanks again for having this forum for us to share memories and bring each other up-to-date; for us to listen in on conversations from brother and sister hairies...now it will be year 14...been around longer than the internet. Yep, Class of 1970 will be having that 40 year reunion next year so any hairies with access to those 1970 graduates...do not be bashful and pass along my email address. With Mike D.'s help we will probably get a pretty good turnout. To Clifford...see you in Reno; to everyone else, Happy New Year!!!

Just had to share some great news. Last night I opened an email that I usually would just delete thinking it was spam/junk mail. My god am I glad I did. It was from Neil's long lost brother Michael looking for me. We lost touch decades ago and he only found out 2 years ago that his brother had died. We made contact on the phone last night and he's coming from Arizona in 2 weeks to re-meet his niece and nephews(Sarah 28, Sean 25 and Alex 22 on Christmas). It's like finding a piece of Neil. Our house is still buzzing from excitement pulling out all the old snaps of Neil and his Rigma brothers and pics of all the ball players that had the pleasure of playing with Neil as a kid. We have tons of news clippings and it always stirs up memories of good old Piedmont High and that is always a good thing. Be safe all through this holiday season and hug those you love extra close this year.
Happy Holidays!!!!!!

To Jerome, The My Eyes was a splinter club from The Rigmas from the 50's. The clubs, Rigma,Kimmer,Kapa were originaly sponsored by the school. You had to have a certain grade point average to be in one. They were of course very "honorable" My Eye was started from guys that didn't have the grades ... at least that's what I remember...Mike

All this talk of the Bonneville Salt Flats reminds me of a film you guys might enjoy - "The World's Fastest Indian", starring Anthony Hopkins it's based on the true story of Burt Munro who set set several motorcycle speed records in the 60's, one of which still stands today.

Dear Mr. Davis, Sorry to SEE the nightmare that has become of your organization from top to bottom!!!!Please read this and have an open mind when it comes to the facts about the Raiders, The last four first round picks have not panned out- fire your scouting department. The last four head coaches are even worse when it comes to preparation, game decisions and execution skills, you fault or theirs it doesen't matter- clean house of all the staff- the once great image that reflected your team is now a public relation nightmare-clean house of every employee- Problem, where does this leave you?- the beginning of the future AL, hire a PRESIDENT like Madden or Parcells maybe Cowher ,and let them do the job- put the right people in the right job allowing each of them to be responsible for their work, accountability, believe it or not I am not a RAIDER fan but I DO WANT YOU TO SUCCEED, THE NFL NEEDS YOUR ClUB TO MOVE ON AND HAVE GROWTH, START TODAY Al, GET BACK ON TOP SOON- SEE YOU IN THE END AL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, Steve lived on upper Estates. He had a 58 Impala convert, red, with a white top... I remembe riding my scrambler to tahoe in 63. Hey Mike...yes, the Grubb sisters--one had blonde hair (Vicki, I think) and the other had dark hair. And Steve Brown used to live up on Estates if my memory still has a few cells. I used to think that drafting only happened in NASCAR but when you and the bike together way about 300 pounds dripping wet, man that thing carries you along like crazy. The difficult part was when you wanted to get out of the draft and the change in velocity was quite abrubt. Lucky to have made it alive through those adventures...especially down I80 on the pavement that in places was grooved. OH MY!

Then off to UC Berkeley for graduate school...just a little difference in the cultures of those two schools in the mid 1970s. Sorry about your loss as well...I guess most of us are in the club. I lost a brother in 2004. Also, Mike, I believe you used to date my half sister, Lynette Pointer back in the day. We lived on Trestle Glen and you used to come by in one of those hot cars you had. Oh, I did come up with a Honda CB175 motorcycle in 1970 so I could commute to my day job that summer at the McDonald's by the Eastmont Mall. I do not know what that qualifies for but it did have turn singles. Took it up to Utah and once rode it back from Fallon, NV to Piedmont one May. Drafting behind semi-trucks and by the time I finally made it home my butt vibrated for about three weeks.

Conrad.... Sorry about your high school experience with the 67 mustang. The salt flats are about almost 2 miles off the main road there out of Wendover NV. Nevada/Utah border. I have also seen tracks in the soft salt along side I-80. Where the track is located is much harder, although to much rain will deem the sight un- race worthy and has in the past caused the event to be cancelled.

I never had a car in school unless you count getting to borrow my mom's 1967 Mustang with the 250 ci engine. However, in the three years of traveling from Piedmont to Provo, UT to attend BYU...I must have seen countless cars and/or car tracks where morons would drive off of I-80 just east of Wendover, UT and try to see just how fast they could go on those Bonneville Salt Flats. The only problem was that the weight of their cars was far more than the ground could handle and they usually sunk in far enough that they had to be towed. It may have depended upon the time of year, but typically the car tracks would head off into the flats and then get deeper and deeper and then they would stop. I think you need to stay on that measured mile so you do not get caught up with Gary Gabelich or Craig Breedlove.

Bill "Rose Bowl Charlie Sifford" Clifford...naw Herndon went to Purdue. I was a 1973 BYU graduate...at least until they got crushed by FSU over the weekend. Went to Cal for graduate school in 1973-1974. Yes, Berkeley is different from Provo. BTW, my son who was at Vandy lasted for three weekes before transferring back to UCSD so I got to take a road trip across the country for fun. At least Vandy is supposed to give back about 80% of the upfront paid tuition. Kinda like I got a raise. I also think that Bill Hearne went out with Jane Lubeck, the Raiderette who posed nude in Playboy. She was from Danville, I believe. Check out the August 1974 Playboy. You know that J-Marc would like that! By the way I am reffing Granada High this weekend with former Raider George Atkinson's son the speedy running back for Granada.

I agree with ya 100 percent, Joe Willie...I have NEVER before seen a QB, on ANY NFL team, miss so many open receivers (and, yes, he CAN heave the ball 75+ yards..."that's just swell, Beave"). Now that the swagger has reappeared in the Raiduh defense, there remains only one logical strategy at this point; dump this clown Russell and lure Lamonica outta retirement....get with the program, Al!

Richard Boone tells John Wayne in the movie,BIG JAKE,"close but no cigar,"the Duke looks at him and says,"not hardly" and proceeds to use his sawed off shot gun to eliminate the problem. All of this Al, means you need to cut your loses and find a qb, I saw Russell throw a 75 yarder to beat Kentucky in '06 and throw a screen over the head of the receiver two yards away. Come to think of it, The Rigmas of the early 70's, they had the best rolling fleet in Piedmont. OK here he goes on cart talk again....
But they did.
We even had those two Plymouth Road Runner tug boats of Farwell & Betts. The bargain muscle cars. Now they would be a great add to any garage today. But they were just bargain sedan heaps.
Now Mike yours is another story.
Peace out.

I have to tell you Lori that is how I felt about those clubs. The Rigmas took my best friend in the world at the time (probably still is). I thought everything was going to change. Well nothing did, 1 quarter later I was, yes a "F---ing Rigma Lion" too. For me it was being with Peter at any cost.... The only thing I didn't understand? Why they had to hit you? I am laughing now. It was our 35th reunion last Saturday. There was a line up of boy's getting their picture taken. My comment? "Looks like a line of Kimmers". I heard say go away Rigma boy. We all laughed. Now if one of them hit me? It would be all over for them :). Fortunately for me, my friends, our friends crossed all sectors of Piedmont life because of one thing, the automobile. Car guy's. What ever group or no group in Piedmont we stuck together. Peace OUT...1KEN.. It was great seeing everyone we grew up with. For me that started in the 1st grade at Wildwood.

When Belling, a bachelor, moved from Noe Valley to Pacific Heights, he went from a 1,600-square-foot home filled with antiques to a 3,100-square-foot home with room for his stuff, but he purged much of it for a sparer look.
Belling, 51, has an eye for fabulous finds, cultivated in large part due to his parents, who owned a furniture store and then an antiques shop in Piedmont. Two-week antiquing trips to Paris with his mother every year honed his treasure-hunting skills; some pieces remain in his possession to this day.
"I wanted understated elegance - comfortable and stylish, but not fussy or fancy," said Belling, who has been a lawyer, real estate developer, a vice president of Oh La La! cafe chain, a partner in the Paragon Bar & Cafe chain and co-founder of Allbusiness.com.
Because he likes to snack, and used to hide his Doritos at lunchtime out of shame, his next venture was developing a guilt-free treat. As co-founder and chief executive officer of PopChips, potato chips that are not baked or fried, but popped without oil from tiny pieces of potato (like air-popped popcorn), he is busy 75 hours a week. His schedule allows little time for socializing or dating, but when he does, his three-level home is a versatile and stylish setting for a 100-person cocktail mixer or a sit-down dinner for eight, thanks to architect Aleck Wilson, Barbagelata Construction and interior designer Ana Maria Delgado of Delgado Design.
The house, built in the late 1960s, had exterior shingles and a Mansard roof, a dated look replaced by a smooth exterior painted in taupe. New iron balconies with potted topiaries lend the look of a modern boutique hotel. The ground level once housed a large two-car garage. It was divided up into a garage and two separate rooms: a study with French doors to the backyard, and a bathroom with limestone flooring and a glass shower stall. A stairwell leading up to the second and third floors was boxy and closed in, with closets on each landing. The closets were removed and the stairwell was opened up to the roofline, where a new skylight allows light to splash down throughout the home.
The kitchen was upgraded and a wall removed to open it up to the dining room. A pair of French doors in each lead to a deck and a bricked, private patio with leafy trees.
The third floor contains a guest room, a study with soothing, sage-colored grasscloth wallpaper; and a master bedroom whose bed is done up in luxurious trappings from Scheuer Linens on Sutter Street. The master bath features a stand-alone tub with curving wall made of marble mosaic tiling; a glass shower stall is lined in marble.
Among his favorite possessions: a series of framed maps of polar ice caps, jars of cricket balls and bocce balls bought while antiquing in Los Gatos; a bed frame for the master bedroom made of a reclaimed door found at Ohmega Salvage in Berkeley; and an art piece made of molds used for Bakelite eyeglass frames, purchased at Amy Perlin Antiques in New York.
When friends come over, a private chef cooks salmon or tri-tip and salad and Belling serves Blackbird Vineyards Merlot or Peter Michael Winery Chardonnay.
"It's really comfortable, and I like the reaction when people come over," Belling said. "One of my friends said, 'This is the only house that both I and my wife agree we both like.' People smile."

Good old Clint in 'Play Misty for me'. We HAD to sit next to the curtins in the theater, which kept 'moving' all throught the movie. Bernie was a little freaked out about that as I remember. And then the maid came out from behind the curtin in the movie and hacked up the cop with sisciors. Yep, that there was a darned good night! It was raining when we got out so what better time to have the top down on the way back home. I think that Bernie then KNEW we were in fact "nuts". I think that was the last 'trip' he did with us. Yes the good old FIAT days indeed..........Auto pilot? Was that with you steering and me working the pedals and Bernie yelling directions to both of us? Or was he yelling, "let me out of here"!!!

It wasn't for the mini bike we just took out of a garage and rode all day (4Th grade) and returned it to the same garage. It was a Sunday. We kept trimming the top of a tree in his yard to make a tree fort. We topped it so much we only lefty 10 or 15 feet of tree. His next door neighbor who's tree it was came out to yell at us. Jay yelled back, you know me I was out of there. I got home and it was Sunday with my extended family there swimming and dinner. I just missed the Piedmont police coming to talk to me and my parents... They only got the parents.. To this day I believe my parents thought it was funny as hell.. I do it makes me laugh.. However we got to know them all very well over the next few years (huh, Stu & Peter?). The mini bike fit in the trunk as I remember. What helmets? We did what we did and most of us are still around to tell about it. The stories that we remember anyway! Stuart, as far as being an adult, I am still working on the growing up part. Hi Peter. The 850 Fiat Sport Spider had a lot of memories "packed" into it. Especially when we got 5 or 6 people in it! We turned the passenger seat backwards and that made room for a LOT more people. It's a good thing it was a convertable, (huh, Stu)! The old Cushman was something that I think Brion had? Our dad might even have gotten it for something, I don't remember. Brion will have to answer that one. By the way Brion, yes I knew the way to San Jose, especially to 'Just Leather'. They make long lasting leathers......My jacket, chaps, flying cap & wallet are going on 33 years. You can't say that about most other leather goods. No, they didn't pay me to say that either. Darsie... I can't see the future but I can certainly see where the present is leading us. Spending money we don't have and can't repay, quadrupling the national debt, nationalizing health care, penalizing productivity, "cap & tax", gov't becoming a stakeholder/owner in private sector (cars/banks). The gov't is growing and we'll all become ever more dependent upon it. BHO and his groupies are leading this once proud country down the road of Marxism. That's the future, Darse... you can see the seeds of it in everything BHO does everyday.

Sorry to hear of the loss of Don Perkins. Thanks for the note Rick. I'll mainly remember Don from our senior year basketball team with Rand Huff at center, Henderson and Kilmartin at forwards, and Don and I at guard. We were undefeated through the first round of league play and I'm quite sure would have won them all if Tom had not been injured. If I remember correctly, Don was the second leading scorer after Henderson. I also remember seeing Don acquit himself quite well in a backup quarterback role for San Jose State in a 63-21 loss to a Rose Bowl bound Stanford team led by my Stanford classmate Jim Plunkett. Don was involved in a myriad of activities, seemed to have the knack for getting along with everyone, and if you look back at ClanOLogs always seemed to have a great smile on his face. I'm sure that many would feel he was their best friend. He leaves me with nothing but good memories. David Harper - PHS 66

WASHINGTON - Robert S. McNamara, the cerebral secretary of defense who was vilified for prosecuting the Vietnam War, then devoted himself to helping the world's poorest nations, died Monday. He was 93.
McNamara died at 5:30 a.m. at his home, his wife, Diana, told The Associated Press. She said he had been in failing health for some time. His death was first reported Monday by the Washington Post.
McNamara's trademarks were his rimless glasses and slicked down hair and his reliance on quantitative analysis to reach conclusions, calmly promulgated in a husky voice.
He was born June 9, 1916, in San Francisco, son of the sales manager for a wholesale shoe company. He attended Piedmont High School. At the University of California at Berkeley, he majored in mathematics, economics and philosophy.
As a professor at the Harvard Business School when World War II started, he helped train Army Air Corps officers in cost-effective statistical control. In 1943, he was commissioned an Army officer and joined a team of young officers who developed a new field of statistical control of supplies.
Known as the 'whiz kids' McNamara and his colleagues sold themselves to the Ford organization as a package and revitalized the company. The group became known as the "whiz kids" and McNamara was named the first Ford president who was not a descendant of Henry Ford.
A month later, the newly elected Kennedy invited McNamara, a registered Republican, him to join his Cabinet. Taking the $25,000-a-year job cost McNamara $3 million in profit from Ford stocks and options.
The rest is history!

Bother Pete Allen, Norton Brothers and Big Ben Collar Surfing Bolinas Bone Yard. Regular crew drinking at Elwwods. Catching strippers and Salmon right off the beach. Hey SemperFiGuy, It was an honor for me to ride with a lot of ex Marines, as well as people from a lot of other branches of the service that were represented on the ride too, the National Veterans Awareness Ride. It was a great feel good ride, which left behind a lot of goodwill everywhere we went! The feeling that is found with tears of joy from the Veterans and from us as well, when we take the time to just visit for a while, is worth more than anything that money can by. The Veterans who are able to come out and see our motorcycles are possibly re-living some past memories of their own if for only a short time, and it will leave a lasting impression from our simple act of stopping by to say hi. We won't be hearing very many more WWII stories from our Veterans, not first hand anyway! It warms my heart that I am truly blessed to be able to do the ride and visit our 'forgotten' Veterans for the fourth year in a row. Thank you for your positive interest in my ride and thoughts on the subject. Life is too short to worry about any negative BS, therefore I am very glad to stay in the positive mode of helping to put smiles on peoples faces!!! PS, Thank You for serving our country and 'Welcome Home' SemperFiGuy! And thank you too Mr. Looney for your service to our country as well......

The first, with talk of the 6 or 7 time dui drunk biker that has nothing to do with anything here with the exception of, how can our justice system fail us and let someone like that on the street....The second with a little more kindness.. Fortunately I was too young to have to go to a foreign land and fight for someone else freedom while being told it is for American FREEDOM (Iraq today, is for their freedom not American FREEDOM). What I find the most interesting is no names? But on this new system Mike has set up I bet I can see where the post come from..As you all know I am not pro war... But you always know whatever I post, it came from me... Peace OUT!! My brothers & Sisters.. Last weekend in my home town of Carmel Valley at my favorite restaurant?? I heard "I know this guy". Looney...
Since it seems to matter to you, I was drafted before signing up in the Marines. Big deal. You have an anger management problem. You came out of the box on your first post slamming folks you don't know who are having clean fun at nobody else's expense... and doing good things for people they don't even know. What have you done since Nam (if you were even there) besides being angry, rude, unhappy, resentful, and selfish? Hmmmm.

Mr. Milo Anderson, First of all, don't be so sensitive.I guess I can thank myself then, 1st Air Cav, ankhe Vietnam 67-69. You see Mr Milo Anderson I made a choice, I was not drafted, I joined. I don't drive in a fancy car and have in the past dabbled in Harley's myself. No need to give me your political views of what makes this country, that I love, so great. Riding a Harley is certainly no qualifier, and as far as being "mature" tell that to the 43 year old drunk riding on a bike that killed the 7 year old daughter and gravely injured her father in a cross walk the other day. I wonder if he was a veteran?.... buzz off dude, you don't get to decide who's the real American because you ride ..

Mr Looney of '63 re: maturing and getting a life. If riding my motorcycle from coast to coast and taking the time to stop by and visit our very brave and fine veterans and thank them for their service to our country is "not mature" in your opinion, then I do believe that you, sir, are the one who needs to "get a life".
Our country is founded on the many principals of freedom of speach and choice among other freedoms that WE all enjoy today. Because of the actions of 'ALL' veterans, past and present, people like you are free to say things without the repercussions of those of a less than desireable government. I have never told someone in this forum to mature and 'get a life' because of ones lifestyle. I do believe that you must be one of the unhappy guys in your fancy expensive cars, that when we all ride by with smiles on our faces and love in our hearts, secertly wishes that you too could be having as much fun as we do! Oh wait, this lifestyle is not for the simple narrow minded people that I do believe that you resemble. Next time you see a retired veteran wearing a service related hat or a service person in uniform, I challenge you to take the time to thank him or her for their service to our country, so you can continue to make your jabs at a lifestyle that does not agree with your obviously 'perfect' life. Enjoy, Milo

Actually I was never really impressed with this contest- more of a Waxman publicity stunt that spiraled in a weird tradition than an educational experience. The audience seemed to treat the whole thing as a joke. Hopefully they will kill this before it sinks futher into mediocrity...

Hey Rose Bowl! I believe it was Cinque who led the SLA back in the day. They were going to kidnap Jay Carlson right after Patty Hearst but he was able to fend them off out there in Berkeley. The sporting goods store--not Montclair Sporting Goods or The Safari Shop where you could get Havens Jerseys was it? Nope, they were in Oakland. Didn't they turn Cinque into burnt toast back at some mansion in South Central LA? Don't know the sporting goods store but half right is not bad!

Well Stu, we could talk about business, but we all know how that's been the last year and a half or so. We could talk about Ira's or 401k's but we all know how that's been. I personally prefer to talk about positive stuff. My almost 9 month old grand son, Dallas Milo, is furniture walking now and very soon will be walking without things that he needs to hold on to. Sorta like the good old excessive drinking days, amoung other things that we used to do that altered our ability to 'walk in a straight line'. Other than that, the sun is out and we are still able to enjoy the freedom of living in America. Everyone should thank a Veteran for our freedom, as I do whenever I come in contact with either a person in uniform or a retired service person wearing a service related hat. It is just another simple way to put a smile on people's faces!...... I personally don't support the war, but I do support our troops! And yes Stu, I also believe that they should all be brought HOME!
