As it is the end of the year I think it is very appropriate that we again thank Brother Michael DuFloth for his continued support in providing this site for us to talk about cars, kids, old flames, our teachers, sports, remote Piedmont High School look alike campuses, etc. and we can comment and share regardless of our locations or health or marital status. It is hard to believe that we have been doing this for over 12 years and before that the Hairy Lawn News, the print predecessor of the Hairy Net. Brother Michael...thanks again and may all of PHS hairies and harriets have a year full of drawing straight flushes in poker, fun times, good health, and hot cars (or at least the memories of hot cars.)

Milo you never dropped me off with your Mom in the car??? I think I dropped your Mom off more than you. We had our 9 to 11 hour drives to Oregon. There was another Mustang 1971 yellow 351 Cleveland, C6. The best neutral drops out there by a neutral drop expert. Your car was green 390 "S" code 4spd. Peace OUT!!
Milo you are wrong!! (aaa)

What do you mean, neutral drop? My 69 mach1 had a 4 speed. Yeah, that car got me a few tickets, but what the judge REALLY didn't like was all the 'exibition of speed' tickets that I got while on my Yamaha 650. I never did understand why I was always cited with 'exibition of speed' on the tickets when I was almost always doing UNDER the speed limit. Just because I was usually on ONE wheel at the time!!!! I think that the cops were jealous that I could keep the wheelies going for quite a while. Yes, the judge kept my license for a while back then. Happy New Year everyone! Milo

This person (besides Dougie our King and of coarse Milo in that big Mustang) used to bring me home (they are all older than I), let me get out of the car and smoke the tires up La Salle right on King and continue to smoke them up King catching 2ND.. While waving at my Mom!!!!! One day in a Mustang with his license taken away, his Mom in the front seat letting me out of the car. My Mom waving as usual to his??? The best neutral drop and smoke all the way down to Crocker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Yeah baby... Peace OUT! Being the conservative of our group?? They did it because they knew it bugged me.

Stuart, I can recall, quite vividly and quite fondly the day you had T.O.P's "This time it's real" blaring out the back of your (white?) van, which was parked, quite strategically, at 800 Magnolia...it was probably fall 1973 or spring 1974...I have seen TOP a few times in recent years - in San Diego, at the Paramount in Seattle, and, yes indeed, the Fillmore, with Average White Band opening...

Yo Stu-e-j. Yes I can guess what car it is, because I painted it for him back in the day. He tells me the same paint job is still on the car, from over 35 years ago! He has been emailing me pic's of the new transformation and the old dirty 'before' pictures. And yes, lots of rubber was left in front of the old 'Randolph st. house' in Oakland. Here it is Christmas eve day and we both have time to do this computer stuff! Yes, business is a 'little slow' up here in Roseburg Oregon too, as I know it is almost everywhere else in our great country. This too shall pass, (I hope) and we all can get back to normal?..... Xmas already and I forgot my yearly Happy Birthday's to my November babies!!! A little Tower of Power on the stream, Winterland 1973, January... We were there!! A big scoop for Piedmont's car culture. There are not many of us that still have our cars from that period. One of Piedmont's legends,,,I mean legends has pulled out an old friend to many of us especially me.....Bret can you guess which car it is??? I have been in this car in many a drag race funnier is many a road race....327 with a Holley that just opened up all at once with little gears then a monster mouse DZ302, ring a bell?? This was a dream of the owner as a child. Now with technology that was not available in the early 1970 that little DZ302 450 horsepower has been strokes just a little??? What male or vehicle doesn't like getting stroked?? Try DZ427!! Have you figured it out yet?? I WOULD PUT MY MONEY ON THIS LEDGEN AS ONE OF PIEDMONT'S FINEST DRIVER of our era, including those caring a gun or with COP training... What is your guess.. I will give one clue, it was painted with a Cadillac Firemist color from 1967 I think...Trivia and it will be on a street burning rubber near you soon... HH & MC. You're right guys, I shouldn't just get on my old high school blog and lash out at old history. But I tell you, as conservative as I am, I just can't forgive government officials who take us Americans for a ride of death and destruction. And yes, I did vote for Barak. McNamara and Bush did have the intelligence to not invade Viet/Iraq but they choose other wise. Though McNamara was obviously not the Pres, he did have the President's ear/attention and could have taken steered the country to the higher ground. There were/are too many lives at stake...and we all know someone who died in these senseless wars. I forgot to mention, I was a Rigma lion. I'll stop now and wish everyone a Merry Christmas. If All Men Grow in Righteousness, why did Robert McNamara launch us into Vietnam that killed over 55,000 Americans and over 2 million Vietnamese people. Oh that's right, when he "grew" older, unlike the 2,055,000 he help killed, he became Righteous by aplogizing to the world in a book saying he was wrong. That gavel is where it suppose to be in a place no one should ever find it or shoved up McAttack's ass. McNamara is not one of our proud moments fella. I remember his 57 Chevy pick up that was held together with duct tape and bailing wire, but would go 0-60 in about 4 seconds thanks to the monster engine under the hood (327? . 455? I don't remember, but I think it was BLOWN!). I was in the back one night on Monterey blvd, the frontage road between La Salle and Park Blvd on the West side of 13, and Frank decided to open her up a little. Where else did cops pull you over and then give you a ride home. These times of ZERO tolerance are facist at best. Kids getting thrown out of college for having a beer in their dorm room, etc.. it is outta hand. Never feel guilty about growing up in Piedmont (oxymoron?). Just keep enjoying the ride. This season I raise my glass to all the derelicts that were setting fine examples for me in my youth, my bro, Tom, and his Lotus Cortina, Donnie Little, Bob Farwell (he of the 72 Power wagon and 68 Road runner), Frank Kramer, who remembers Fat Frank? and his wacky hot rods, the Krall family and their Studebakers, Lance Gimball, who daily beat the shit out of me on the football field, and all those freakin wacky Rigmas. Winslow, I have been to Lemoore and have seen and taken pictures of the school. Yes, it was built in the twenty's others just like it were also built by several different contractors in other areas. What's across the street is a single story building I think a city office of some sort. Anyway it is almost identical to PHS as I am sure the others are too. When I first saw it I turned around real quick and just looked at it in amazment. Unbelievable,I kept saying over and over. The person I was with grew up in Lemoore and went to that school. The building looks the same, but it was no Piedmont High. What a time warp though..... Mike

Drank to much in High School. Keg parties, there were some big parties. 70`s people which kegger stood out from all other`s. Which Rigma or Kappa or Kimmer party did stand out. One other question, what were the girl club`s called? Because they had some parties bigger than ours.

Dave, a car guy from the start. I wish I had that Cortina......OK what do you think the Piedmont club system (if you want to call it that) was??? Totally political & segregated in their own way... Hard to get around that and coming off this last two year run for our highest office in our land, to be won by a black man is history that I am proud to be here to see.... As to the homophobes (sorry sport) I can think of two of my friends and friends with many of you that were gay before their time, at a bad time as the late 70's early 80's brought us into the world of aids. I know one is dead and the other has to be. Very sad. To see ignorance in writing is too very sad. No anger here nor was there ever...PEACE OUT!!! Remember in four years of this new guy does a bad job vote him out!!! Don't be stupid like with Georgie and bring him back!!!!! 1KEN....Dave bring on that POWERWAGON, Catch me if you can.

They should have their rights too,, Don't think about where you live but where you are from... Look where it got Sarah Palin. The libs are so scared of her that they're on a seek and destroy mission much like they did with Joe the plumber. If a lib doesn't agree with the message, they attack. Too bad it's like that, but it IS like that. Has nothing to do with "balls".

The first two school bonds were to exactly that, maintain the artistry and architecture of the original buildings but to provide safety to the students from earthquakes. The bond that finally passed was insufficient to save to old structure and replaced it with the current very much less interesting and unremarkable current buildings. Add to this that this last bond only passed by a bare majority after it was announced that if it failed there was a possibility that Piedmont students would have to *gasp* attend Oakland schools. It’s too bad that the legacy of the 30’s was destroyed by the lack of foresight in the 70’s.

If you need a little deja vous all over again...do a search for Lemoore High School in Lemoore, CA and then go to the Lemoore HS site. Does that school look familiar? I understand that when they rebuilt PHS in the 1970s, they took every piece of it and put it on flat bed trucks and brought it to Lemoore. You can see the results. Having seen this high school in person...it is what I believe to be true...even brought the front lawn and Doc Benson's room and painstakingly rebuilt the place. And...it is still there so it must be earthquake proof. Wonder why they tore down PHS? Your tax dollars at work in Lemoore.

Let's get this site back to remembering hot Piedmont cars or deceased teachers or classmates or what PHS alums have accomplished or how their kids have done well...we pay the big bucks to Barry Obama and the Governator to take care of the big picture. Let's get back to wondering why Orognen would get mad at slackers for having a smoke while running the loop in PE or if you could really see the girls locker room from the crawl space up in wood shop or if anyone actually went to Mustang Ranch while in high school. I mean we really got to get back to what is really important in our little part of the world.

As long as we seem to be talking politics... Senator Joe Lieberman... a very good man... was Chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee until today. It's being reported that Harry Reid has stripped him of his Chairmanship as punishment for not supporting Obama in the campaign. So much for bringing us together, mending fences, working together, crossing the aisle, being non-partisan, etc. Is punishing Lieberman part of that CHANGE you were all expecting? Sounds like the same old shit to me. What a surprise.

Then you must also think it fine to saddle a minor child with the burden of knowing she KILLED A BABY and lied to her parents for the rest of her life? What's wrong with giving the baby a chance to live before you decide to kill it? Do you have a daughter, or are you just getting off on making the rules for those who do? Watching the news today, I see that the anti Prop 8 idiots are rioting in S.F and L.A., that's losing with dignity. I hate hate, but I really hate militant gays trying to stuff their insanely twisted set of values on the rest. They have the same rights as the rest. I mean, I wouldn't want to make it uncomfortable for a MINOR CHILD to keep her own parents informed. Maybe you're right. Maybe we should just turn our kids over to the GOVERNMENT when they're born instead of raising them ourselves. You're all fuckin nuts.

Am still amazed at how intolerant the liberal left is. Still spewing hatred, not willing to accept the will of the voters, unwilling to realize that the financial mess we are in happened over the last two years, who was running congress at that time, Harry, Nancy, and the other mindless fools that make policy with feelings and not fact, or any financial consideration. Take a broader look at history ass hole, and you will find that it was Jimmy Carter that is responsible for many of today’s housing problems as well as the one in my opinion created terrorism. What I do know is that if my lovely daughter got an abortion without the consent and support of me and my wife, my second amendment rights would be fully exercised. Color and gender have nothing to do with it, it's what is right or wrong. The best thing about what George W. Bush did was expose the liberals for what they really are, loud self absorbed, intolerant, hate spewing bigots. Go fuck yourself.

Zippy, I am guessing your not happy with the new guy? I agree do the chickens need more room? Fortunately I disagree with your thoughts on the right for someone to choose an abortion over having to go home to parents that would not be understanding. Some parents would be abusive. Remember you grew up in lilly white Piedmont. A couple of oriental (that is from the east) people, 15 Jews and yes 3 black families. Your open and tolerant mind is showing. Too bad that prop 8 didn't go down as it should have. Separation of church and state?? Not with the current administration.. Thank God there is going to be a new puppy in the white house. They are color and sexual gender blind. Higher taxes??? Health care for all??? Rights for all including young girls and boys that are screwing around like you did in your day. Lots of times.....Member of the bagpipe band under Mr. McInnes, I got into a fight once with someone who didn't like the idea of me wearing a kilt. I broke his arm and he accepted that fact that wore a kilt in the band. Mr.Waxdeck would, when an attractive young lady would enter the class say, "Please, step into my office" which was just his desk up front....and then there was someone in my biology class with who hung Mr. Waxdeck's white lab coat on the classroom ceiling with wire probes.

On July 19, 2008 there was a "Celebration of Life" get together for Mr. Elwood "Burt" Gerrits. He was our teacher for Social Studies/World Geography at PJHS, in 1965-66. The "Party" was held at his home, on Golden Gate Avenue, in the Oakland Hills--next to the Claremont C.C. Golf Course. I have never seen so many people crammed into a small house & back yard; for a funeral. (I have seen that many people wedged into a small house at some of the parties I attended, while studying at U.C. Davis!!) "Burt" had a lot of friends that attended, and some were former PHS Grads., and retired PHS Faculty. One of his former students said she was in his first class at PJHS, in 8th grade (1950). That class was English, and she said that they remained friends for 58 years. (Today, her initials are M.B., and she asked me to leave her name out of this "report".) Here are the names of the former students who attended Mr. Gerrits' "Celebration of Life Party"--that I spoke with: Stafford Buckley (Class of 1966), Matt Callahan, Michael Callahan, and Trish Callahan, Nancy Linford, and Diana Thatcher (Class of 1969?). Former faculty whom I recognized that attended: Harry Bethel (French & Latin), Jack Stack (Golf Coach & Driver's Education/Training), and Gil Worth (Head of the Math Dept.). It was my good fortune to have become friends with "Burt"--during the last couple of years--while working as "Historical Docents" in Oakland. He will be missed by many......

Somebody actually cares about highschool...how amazing. I must admit, given the last 30 years or so, I feel lucky to have gone to such as progressive school as PHS. Kids these days, including my own, seem to have no clue or social awareness, I'm grateful to have gone to an elitist highschool eventhough I disliked it at the time. I regret that my children have not received the same education that I was privleged to receive. There are those of you that touched my life in an incredible way; the artists, the poets, the political activists, the Kappas ( I was particularly fond of the football guys), and then there is the wonderful Camp A ugusta crew, bless you all. I'm really amazed at the amount of people that I knew that moved away from CA. up to the great Northwest. Did you find what you were looking for? Thanks for the time, best wishes to all Christy G.

My kids (7 and 11) don't read comics :o(, play scrabble :o( or play soccer :o). Ok...when your folks told you it was time to go to bed when you were a kid and to stop either watching TV or playing some silly board game...you should not have listened...especially the board game thing. Last week, my son, Conrad Bassett-Bouchard, who is a sophomore at UCSD, returned from Orlando, FL where he beat 125 other Scrabble players to win the Division 2 (2nd highest) national championship of the National Scrabble Association. He posted a 24-4 record which was the best of any of the six divisions and won $4,120 and a huge Tiffany plate. McNair was very intense. For reserved kid like me, he was scary/intense. But I wish all my coaches had been like him. You could feel what he was trying to achieve, and by all accounts he did achieve it. Bill and the players he mentioned were great players, but McNair's intensity in '72-'73 seemed to bring out the best in them. They were a fun team to watch. Our '73-'74 team was more laid back, and didn't respond as well at first (with the exception of Joe Leadem, Mike Bartlett, and Benjy Lawrence, who were intense from the get-go.) But we faced a top-ranked Miramonte team in the last game of the season, and we underachievers almost managed a huge upset, losing 7-6, if memory serves. McNair sparked that effort. I can see why he had so much success, and I wish I had listened to him more.

Sad news about the passing of Coach Kevin McNair. I had the privilege of being coached by him in his first year at PHS when he arrived as the new assistant football coach (and Coach Bob's heir apparent) in '72-'73 as well as my head coach in track. Kevin had the unique ability to draw out the best in great athletes and bring out the athlete in non-athletes. He taught more young men and women on how to focus and what to focus on than probably any other coach I've ever known, with the exception of Coach Bob. Most players back then knew Kevin was destined to greater coaching challenges beyond Piedmont and this proved to be true. Glenn Hoit, Bob Rowe, Marc McGinn, Larry Ricksen and lots of other former players would probably agree. Kevin's coaching skills culminated in putting together an undefeated football team in '76 and I was there to see it happen. As a former player and former assistance coach to Kevin, I will miss him but his tools on focus and drive to the finish will always live on in all of us who knew him. Peace be with you, brother.

Former UC Irvine Track Coach and Piedmont High head football coach Kevin McNair passed away July 10. McNair, 59, guided the Anteater program from 1979-84, leading UCI to three consecutive runner-up finishes in the Pacific Coast Athletic Association Championships (1981, 1982 and 1983). Seventeen of his student-athletes won PCAA individual titles during his tenure. McNair was named PCAA Coach of the Year in 1981. He is survived by his children, Mike and Patricia, and two grandchildren. He coached Piedmont's undefeated NCS championship football team in the mid-1970s.

Aloha All, It's me Fred Rubio and I am standing next to Jim Saylor at his jewlery shop in Kapaa banging out this missive. We are so very sorry to hear about the loss of our class mates Leo Mclean and Rob Andregg, we remember them fondly. We loss John Soares a few years ago now. Over the years I have heard from or seen Mike Robertson, Jenny Adams, Ken Mockel, Milo Anderson, Bruce and Mark Adams of our class and my T-Birds mates of '71. And yes Gimball, Jimmy says hi! We are glad to hear that many of you are doing well in our 50 something decade! I run the beach and swim Hanalei every morning. My family does heavy hiking and swimming here in the summers. We finished the Kalalau just yesterday and kayaked the Wailua just two days ago. What a blast. Jim is now a chain with "2 locations to serve you!" One store in Kapaa and one in the hotel Princeville in the 5 star hotel lobby. He was voted Retailer of the year 2008. I think he had an article written about him in "In Style". His lovely daughter works for him this summer. Jim and I have done some heavy sailing/racing. He here in the islands and I in the Bay Area/Stockton. No place on earth like Kauai all!!! I still play a lot of tennis and Jim golfs like a madman. We both are in the best of health and are very happy here. Sorry to hear that California is on fire....my goodness 1,100 fires. Not good. Well, Jim and I just wanted to check in and say aloha. Stay well everyone and Carpe Diem!!! And by reading some of these emails..."let's all play nice in da sand box bra"! Went tom our big 4TH of July party in Jamesburg Ca. just up the dirt roads from Cachagua. The party was canceled due to the fire but 6 couples still got together on the mountain. I brought the marsh mellows up and some furniture and personal belongings down. Over the weekend we had a wind change so we got blue skies...There are 4 fire camps from my house in the village to the intersection of Arroyo Seco Rd. & Carmel Valley Rd.... There was a new plume on Sunday right behind my place. Then a massive air assault.. Today is just another day in paradise. Hopefully the winter rains will be early that is when they expect it to be out..I like the word contained. They have it surrounded. The fire can still jump that line... The crews are doing a great job... That's all from fire central.............Peace OUT!...1KEN

Also Mic Beattie, Elmer Collett, Les Scanlon, and I finished first in the inaugural Paddle board race from Bolinas to the Stinson Beach life guard tower. The iconic Kwik Way needs rehab and return as a hep Hot Rod drive in; a real landmark and great location. Always will remember Ellwood and his forms, one of a kind guy. As a docent at the cemetery, he'd noticed our family headstone had been knocked over recently. He took it upon himself to initiate a work order to have it repaired. I'd asked him for a copy of the old Form A... he told me that he thought he might have some stored up in his attic somewhere... So for those of you at the party... if you happen to see a box full of old mimeographed stuff... check it out!! There were but a handful of teachers I've had in my life that truly made a difference. I'm so thankful to have been able to tell him how special and influential he was to me before his passing. I remember Mr. Gerritts and his class vividly (was it Room 7?), and I thank him so very much for whatever it was that he did for us young mushheads that made such a favorable impression. No kidding. Whether the forms we stayed after school to write... "The mastication of chicle is a bovine occupation..." or "talking is an essential communication skill..." , the knuckle rapping, or the course content, his class was exciting and fun. An English prof I had at Cal was also among those instructors I consider "special". He used to say to me... "You done good". And I to you, Mr. Gerritts... "You done good." Thank You.

Saw a minor league baseball game, drove the Feather River Canyon, ate at Madison Bear Garden..it was all good. Hey Lefty...will you be sitting in with Snoop Doggy Dogg? Hey Jimmy... and Lori... My comments aren't hateful in the least. The facts I stated are irrefutable whether you care to believe them or not. They've been reported by all networks. As for lyrics from the 60's... typical left-wing bumper sticker/slogan politics. Barack associates with terrorists, bigots, and racists because he identifies with them and likes them. It's simple. He's just like them. If that's what you want, vote for him. I don't particularly like McCain either, but neither do most conservatives because he's crossed the aisle too many times. How many times has Barack ever crossed the aisle? Not once. The truth hurts. Your man is a fake and you're drinking the punch he's serving.

Hey JM, you made me think of a song from the sixties with the refrain, "Oh, your flag decal won't get you into heaven any more, they're already overcrowded from your dirty little war.." The problems this country faces today are largely due to people like you who vote as if flag pins actually matter. I also note you're too cowardly to use your real name.

Tom Williamson was a good man. His brother George was a good man. Their sister Brenda was also a good person. The only thing Barack Obama shares with those three is that he's black. Barack Obama is no Tom, George, or Brenda Williamson. He's a liar, a bigot, and a racist. His friend, mentor, and spiritual advisor is a racist preacher. His Chicago friend of 20 years, Bill Ayers is a terrorist. Ayers wife, Bernadine Dohrn, is a terrorist who was once on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted List. Close friend and fundraiser, Tony Rezko, is a convicted felon. Tony helped Barack and his wife buy their home in Chicago. Are any of you "Hairy's" chummy with the likes of such bomb chucking, hate preaching people? Obama won't place his hand over his heart during the national anthem of pledge of allegiance. He won't even wear an American flag lapel pin. He claims that it "sends the wrong message... that it's divisive". And then there's his wife... Recall the old saying that "birds of a feather..."? Is this the CHANGE you were looking for?

How about when he was warming his bed with a hotplate and lit his friends house on fire In J-Bay. Loved the quote "Surfing, then is either one of the most courageous art forms, or the laziest; the ultimate in humility or narcissism. Likely all of the above. And it's still uncertain how well the world will ever appreciate surfing beyond the bodies, bikinis, acrobatics, and commercial appeal, because, as any surfer will tell you, the act is indescribable. You're so in the moment it's like dreaming; you act on instinct. And the dream-state pleasure-producing endorphins are so powerful that when you pull out of the wave you can't wait to catch another and prolong the dream. Talk about addictive." About sums it up. 5:45AM Memorial day 2008. Reading the antics of my brother on the rode (while listening to The Sons of Chaplin on Wolgangsvault.com) from work this holiday when we are suppose to reflect for those that are no longer with us due to unfortunate circumstance. Anyway I am thinking of my journey, a similar journey 19 years ago. Meeting the vets that had gone to war show me how fortunate my generation was to just miss it. The low death count in the mid east wars now due to better medical technology and being able to save more lives. We now have more injured and maimed surviving. Yesterday I saw no coverage of the bikers, 500,000 of them shutting down our capitol and no coverage? At least where I was looking. It is one of the most emotional experiences of a life time. So, I hopped in the truck and we took the "hog" off in Fallon...and I proceeded to ride that pup at night...all the way back to Piedmont. I was drafting behind semis and totally out of control to even consider doing this but arrived safely with about the sorest backside imaginable as well as a body that vibrated for about three days after. Rode Wiemea a couple times, not real big, 12 to 15 foot range with a few sneaker sets to get your attention, But what a great take off. Straight down. In the mid to late seventies when I was there, and even today, it gets so packed, almost never get a wave to yourself. But is a feather in my cap. The whole North Shore is such a cool place. So many breaks and the power is incredible. Getting bounced off the bottom in big Pipe will get your attention real quick, got the scars as sort of memento . As for home breaks, that’s a hard one to answer. Being that there are so many variables to contend with here in Northern Cal, it really matters what the tide is doing, swell size, swell direction, wind, how much I drank the night before. But we ranged from Monterey all the way to Point Arena. But Living and growing up mostly in Stinson Beach after the Piedmont days, I would say Stinson Is home. Am about half way through the Dora book, Great stories. I think every beach community had it’s “Pit,” A Tubstake, a Miki Dora Type, well maybe not a Dora type. Holly Smokes, that guy was something else. Next time I see Kemp I’ll be sure to get a few stories about he man first hand. Brother John Evans Ran into Corky Carroll sometime back. He was selling hospital supplies or something along those lines. But John being a kook, didn’t really know who he was. I think the subject came up and John said his younger brother was a committed surfer, and that was most likely the end of that. Think Surf.

So Dars.... you've actually surfed Waimea? And where is your home break? (mine is in Mexico, where I don't live yet, but do plan to retire there before I'm too old) We were over on the N. Shore winter 2004. I got to see all those breaks going off big time. I have a friend who lives at Sunset Beach... wife teaches at Sunset Beach Elementary (right across from Pipeline) Was at the Pipeline Masters that year (Jamie O'Brien won). But the coolest thing was to watch Waimea going off. I was standing there along the road above the beach, near the church tower, watching with a couple hundred others, when this guy comes up to me and asks me what I thought of the waves... I said something like, "awesome....Waimea really lives up to its billing'... or some such... he then introduced himself as a writer for the Honolulu Advertiser... next morning, my quote was the front page headline... WAIMEA LIVES UP TO ITS BILLING!!!...with my name and others included in the story.... I go down near Ixtapa to a break there where Corky Carroll hangs out...we're now pals. I'm in 'training' now for the big trip this July... 100 laps several times a week...plus cerveza and tequilla... i think i'll be ready...meantime I surfed Huntington and Bolinas a few times this year.

Speaking of late great surfers and one of the all time great water men, I believe Francis and Peter Heath's pop Fran Heath was the one of the originators of the hot curl surf board, which was a revolutionary milestone in the development of the modern surfboard. He along with John Kelley and Wally Froiseth, chopped the tail off Fran's board to keep it from "sliding ass." A long time friend of mine Kemp AAberg, one of the original Malibu crew, has told me great stories of riding Malibu with 4 or 5 guys out. One can only imagine. Today on a good day there can be as many as 250 in the water. Have not seen the book you refer to but if it's written from truth, I bet it's a good read. Perhaps an update on Don Angel's bright orange 1963 Chevy with the two black rally stripes that caught fire when he was delivering pizzas and the pizza warming "oven" overheated. Now that is well done if I do say so myself. Let's hear it for Polse's Ford Blazer...or Andy Thomas's VW with the Porsche engine inside...maybe Jim Kessler in that '57 Ford that could go down the airplane jump on Arroyo and gather all sorts or air before slowing down just in time to not crash into some old bag with feet up on Grand Avenue.

Just want to extend congrats to the Pressman family. Young Chloe, daughter of Scott, was radiant at her bat mitzvah last weekend.... Noteable visitors to Chico were Stu and Less, Russ Milenbach, all of the senior Pressmans, (Annette is still a stunner)... and of course the lovely Jessica. So good to see in person for the first time in many years Stu-e-j - my brother.... Also fun was memoribilia.... a photo spread of Scott's Bar Mitzvah in '66 featured a picture with Scott, Mike Glicksman (with ice cream cone), Steve Riskin, Steve Silver, and Roger Grodin... had to say I recognized 'em all...fun times then and now...

Wallace was not named after Ed Wallis (he might be wise, though), and maybe some of the students at Wildwood School up the street were wise guys and Scott Taylor and Pete Koch were on Winsor. Film Review: "Shine A Light"- An INTIMATE live performance produced by Martin Scorsese about the Rolling Stones captured @ the Beacon Theater in New York City during Fall 2006. YES, The Stones are STILL the "Energizer Bunnies" of R-O-C-K & can STILL KICK A-S-S! Their performance also included (in order of appearance) Jack White (White Stripes) Buddy Guy & Christina Agulera(yum!)Jack White performed a duet on "Loving Cup" with Mick,(both on acoustic guitars) Buddy Guy BLAZED his white electric polka dot Fender strat on "Champagne & Reefer" (W/Mick on Harp) & Christina Agulera(SO-HOT!) joined Mick for a VERY SEXY version of "Live With Me". I rate the film 9 out of 10 Stars due to the presence of THE CLINTONS (yes THOSE Clintons) interupting the flow of content,(plus I didn't have tix!). I recommend viewing the film (multi-cam-shoot) JUST for the sensation of the close-ups on stage plus the p.o.v. of the adoring audience!

I believe old Al still lives up there on the corner of Mountain and Caperton. He never moved to LA when the team did...maybe he knew he was going to return. Always had that white Cadillac with no license plates in front of the house back in the 60s. I was driving down Hegenberger near the once lovely Eastmont Mall last Fall when a big highway patrol car blared through its "megaphone" for me to pull over to the right and get outta da way. No, I was not getting a ducat for going too fast in East Oakland (which is really not necessarily a bad idea) but had to get over to the right because the Raider owner, surrounded by an HP entourage must have been late going to the game. Ah, it must be nice to have the big bucks. I think the only other time I remember seeing a police escort was either OJ on TV or perhaps some hapless, partially inebriated Piedmont teenager being followed home by a Piedmont policeman back in 1969.

Furthermore, why the hell would Oakland draft a tailback with their first round pick when, last season, they were ranked #6 in rushing offense and #31 in rushing defense??? Glenn Dorsey (a Warren Sapp clone) was the sensible pick...the Raiders need to trade, or simply release, Al Davis.

I heard that the restrooms in there had doors that did not lock. I certainly do not need any back door delivery and certainly not one of your back door sliders. What is a back door slider? It may have been your signature pitch on the PHS baseball team or perhaps a KwikWay burger also known as a slider. Doug Oxsen would still be throwing that pitch if Del Valle HS was still around. Speaking of Kentucky basketball. I think we were. And Rod Dibble is still collecting business cards at the Alley over on Grand. What was the name of the gay bar over on Lakeshore? It was down from Confucious and no one would be caught dead in there. Burt later moved to Trader Vic's in Emeryville and was still the bartender there when I last visited on the occasion of the 20th reunion of the class of 1970 nearly 18 years ago. There is a treasure of sorts buried in the Piedmont park for someone to find. In 1961 as a sophmore a friend and I buried a metal box off the path from the quad, down about 75 feet or so from the building. There was a small Pine sticking out of the hillside. In the box are several Piedmont football patches and letters from our "class years". Also a Zippo lighter and various coines, Other memorabilia too from the Rigmas and Kimmers, can't remember what but some cool stuff anyway. We dug a hole about a foot deep so maybe it's still there?. My doctor say's I'm free of diseases (knock on wood) but now I'm not so sure because I also know that the main bartender at Confucious was a union bartender named Joe who lived in Hayward. If I remember correctly, Jimmy Polse still owes Joe the 50 bucks he borrowed to play an impromptu game of "buck-em" (a form of today's popular game, Texas Hold-em ... also called "guts") with Gary Keene, Mark Roemer, Steve Flegal and myself in the dark corner booth back by the restrooms.

That was the same Clark "The Whale" Ransome. He was Muenter's assistant varsity football coach at PHS from 1966-1970 and he was also the varsity baseball coach. Bill Parker was the PHS basketball coach for much of the mid 60s and into the 70s. I believe he took over for Cope. And I believe the spelling was incorrect on that officer...believe it was Markison rather than Lance or Big Al Marcussen...two of Piedmont's favorite sons...not likely that they become officers of the law though...but who knows...and for trivia...Highgate was 444 and Andover was 261.

From the 3/23/08 SF Chronicle Magazine's Healthy Obsessions Column......Jennifer Adams Kapp PHS '72--- Age: 53 Occupation: Veterinary nurse at Los Gatos Dog and Cat Hospital Town: Los Gatos Sport: Doubles tennis Why: It is the greatest blend of exercise, social interaction and outdoor activity. Greatest accomplishment: Going to the Senior Nationals in Tucson in October 2007 with the Los Gatos Swim and Racquet Women's seniors (over 50) captained by Judy Rucker. Our team only lost one match, to New England, and they won the whole deal. Gear you can't live without: My 6-foot-2-inch partner, who is also my daughter-in-law, Pat Kapp. She can cover the whole court with her reach, and it is impossible to lob over her. And Prince T20 tennis shoes. Where you train: Los Gatos Swim and Racquet Club Best time to train: Mornings. You play a 1 1/2 to two-hour match and you still have your whole day. Biggest misconception about your sport: That you need to belong to a fancy club to play tennis. Your local high school or recreation center probably offers low-cost lessons and clinics, and there are many available public courts. Advice you'd give a rookie: Join a clinic or group lesson at a high school or local club. You will meet other players at your level who will want to set up a regular game. Once you are hooked, you can look for a club to join.

From the 3/22/08 Contra Costa Times...Dale Zenor accident update...I guess the Miata is not the car to be in! The pain of losing two teenagers to traffic accidents was fresh in the minds of the Lamorinda community when a six-car pileup killed longtime Walnut Creek resident Dale Zenor a year ago today. Dozens of people witnessed the collision during the usual afternoon gridlock outside Lafayette's Acalanes High School. A lack of skid marks backed witness assertions that the driver of a speeding BMW sedan made no effort to stop when he smashed into Zenor's Mazda Miata, the last in a line of cars stopped for a red light on Stanley Boulevard and Pleasant Hill Road. The impact sent Zenor's car airborne and caused a chain reaction that left Zenor, 55, dead and five others injured. Today, Tracy resident David Caspillo, 39, awaits trial on felony gross vehicular manslaughter charges after pleading not guilty by reason of insanity last week in Contra Costa Superior Court. Although it is an unusual plea in a traffic case, it did not surprise police. After all, one officer said, Caspillo had no drugs or alcohol in his system. How can he explain running a stop sign and accelerating before smashing into a row of stopped vehicles? A conviction could mean up to six years in prison for the married father, a UC-educated IT executive with no prior criminal record. If found not guilty on an insanity plea, he risks a life-long commitment to a state mental hospital. "I believe he's in a very good mental state now so I'm not concerned that will happen," said Caspillo's defense attorney Dirk Manoukian, who believes court-appointed doctors tasked with assessing Caspillo's mental state at the time of the accident will decide that Caspillo had a mental condition. Caspillo was en route to his birthday party after traveling on business for several days. An enormous amount of work, lack of sleep and food, and an undiagnosed mental condition contributed to a manic, sleeplike state that hindered Caspillo from reacting to the danger before him, Manoukian said. Police placed Caspillo in a mental health hospital for more than a week after the accident. He continues to remain "very remorseful" as he has returned to work while continuing outpatient care and medication. During the five months before Caspillo was charged, Lamorinda residents launched an awareness campaign urging motorists to slow down. The Lafayette Police Department and the Times were inundated with calls and letters demanding the BMW driver be named and questioned the delay in making an arrest. But police were legally barred from releasing his name before they finished a tedious and time-consuming investigation, police Chief Mike Hubbard said. In addition to numerous interviews, investigators employed laser technology and a computer to reconstruct every moment of the pileup. "A lot of people were quick to come to judgment before we had a chance to thoroughly investigate," Hubbard said. "There was rhetoric on blogs and forums accusing us of somehow being bought off by this guy or in collusion with him. "People thought he was a powerful and influential person, and we were trying to protect him in some way when what we were doing was obeying the law ourselves." The criminal case will be closely watched by friends and family of Zenor, who grew up in Piedmont before spending much of his adult life in Walnut Creek. He was a self-employed financial adviser, described by his sister Debbie Hamilton as "very kind and caring, a very decent person." Meanwhile, on the anniversary of his death, people are gathering to remember Zenor, in the Bay Area and in Connecticut, where Hamilton resides. "He was very generous and everyone who knew him loved him," Hamilton said. "It being the anniversary of his death, this is very hard for me. "When I lost him, I was devastated. I still am."

Some very sad news. For those of you who may have known her, or any of her sisters, Marsha Gonick was killed in a car accident early last Saturday morning (March 15). I always worried about that tiny red convertible Miata. It never seemed like enough protection. I never saw the car with the top up, even in the rain. Apparently she spun out on I-880 traveling north from Fremont, where her 90+ year old dad is living. A car crashed into her on the drivers side and she was killed. I haven't spoken with anyone in the family yet. I don't have a working number for her dad, Harry Gonick. Hope to reach him soon via snail mail. Marsha was a fellow musician, a talented and creative violist and writer. She wrote several engaging articles in Strings Magazine, an industry mag. We kew each other in High School, and became friends in college. We would see each other at gigs on the "Freeway Phil" circuit. I believe she graduated from Piedmont High in '77 or '78. Alan Harvey allowed her to play in the orchestra when she was in the middle school (Jr. high?) like he did with all able bodied instrumentalists. She was a sight. A tiny girl with 2 giant pig tails sticking out of each side of her head and a giant viola sticking out from under her chin. We were friendly then, but not that close because of the 5 year age difference, of course. But then I saw her in the college orchestra. Same face with a viola sticking out from under the chin, but she grew up and stopped wearing the pig tails. We played in the CSUH orchestra, the Cal Berkeley Orchestra and the CETA Symphony together. We hung out in between rehearsals and concerts. I am so shocked she is gone. It still doesn't seem real.

The correct spelling of "duffus" is doofus (per Websters Dictionary). By the way, that's a big book with correctly spelled words in it. I learned that at Harvard.

Pretty good marketing plan I'd say.One thing, why does a man who has a family wealth of approx. 500 million dollars FIND THE NEED TO WRITE CHECKS FOR USE OF COMPANIONSHIP? Just a thought. See you in Reno or over at Ashley's listening to THE new CD.

So sorry to hear about Leonard McLean. My memories of him are that he was really good guy seriously lacking a mean bone in his body. Found his obit online: "Leonard James McLean October 28, 1954 - February 4, 2008 Leonard found peace after a long illness at home in Martinez, CA. He was a kind, gentle and loving man with a great sense of humor. He was a long time resident on the Peninsula and worked at the SF Airport for over 30 years. He is survived by his beloved children Hayley and Michael McLean and Kevin Fox; loving mother, Jane McLean; devoted sisters, Mary Patterson and Margie McLean; longtime friends, Bob Mendelson, Michael Robertson, Richard Rector and many other family and friends whom over the years were blessed with his kind words, thoughtful gestures and many smiles. He will be missed and remembered with love always. Services will be private. Donations can be made in his memory to The Peninsula Humane Society, (650) 340-7022."

Staying on topic, what would you call a person with 1/16th black, some Asian, a little Eskimo, perhaps a bit of Turkish, maybe Native American, a pinch of Aboriginie, and a full Irish blooded mother? My guess is that this guy would call himself "black" (or Jimmy Polse?) and be proud of it, right? Hey, I don't have a problem with a guy calling himself anything he wants. But I agree with you, the press considers it trendier to just refer to the guy as "black", no matter what he is. I'm OK with that. In all seriousness, all this latest ranting is a pretty funny read.

Such an outstanding debate we have initiated here! First of all, it is clear that we have established two sides: Barak and I represent the conservatives, and Kim and Stu represent the liberals...obviously, we have significantly different perspectives, and, therefore, different outlooks on social issues. I feel complelled to respond to several of the afformentioned's comments: Kim, certainly I do have issues with people of color...I won't waste space here with my fears/concerns/anger towards what is happening in our great country, because I'll sound much like Edward Norton's character's ranting at the dinner table in "American History X" (though I might suggest you do a little in-depth research as to what REALLY happened in the Rodney King/Reginald Denny/LA Opportunity event back in '92) . However, I have equal issues in regards to the despicable actions of our president and his criminal cronies. Switching gears... Stu, ask Tiger Woods what his ethnicity is (FYI, his mom is Chinese/Thai and his dad was half black, a quarter white, and a quarter Native American) and I assure you he will not respond "black"...however, the sportswriters find it far more newsworthy to categorize Tiger as "black" in a sport developed by Anglo Saxons, and overwhelmingly influenced by us white guys...The beautiful and talented Halle Berry, who has a white mom and a black dad, accepted her Oscar "on behalf of all the women of color"...spare me. Anyhow, for this country to heal, us thieving conservatives and you limousine liberals must, at some point, meet in the middle. Lastly, Stu, I'm heading out to Carmel March 7-8-9...gonna spend the time there with my Filipina girlfriend. Peace out.

Hey Kim... and all other open minded "Hairys"... I have no problem with people of color at all... none. I don't know why you'd say that, except that even MENTIONING an individuals color these days somehow infers bigotry. In reality, I'd be fully behind a woman for pres or a person of color for pres. How 'bout Condoleezza? I could vote for her. She's clear thinking & unselfish. Unfortunately, she's not egomaniacal enough to want the thankless job. I find it somewhat amusing that you accuse me of being "all over John Austin", when I simply found it interesting that he wanted you to censor the "Guestbook" because he didn't agree with my civilized comments. That is precisely how libs work, and frankly, it's scary. I haven't threatened anyone, nor have I been the least bit aggressive, yet John Austin wants me censored? Firstly, Mr. Barack... why don't you come out and reveal yourself? You're all over John Austin - at least he has the guts to say what he thinks and sign his own name...!! Secondly, sounds like the Barack guy and Steve Main both have issues with people of color. Main talks about an academy award winner, the best golfer of all time, and the possible next president of the US as somehow marketing a coolness factor based on their ethnicity. I do think in all three cases, each of these folks have a right to be proud of what they've achieved in a society that is far from free of bigotry... I don't believe there's a whole lot of intention to market any sort of 'cooler than thou' thing based on ethnicity...they are all where they are because they are supremely intelligent and talented. Thirdly, I'm still trying to figure it all out, but I think I agree with Stu... But I'm not so sure about Stu's assertion that Blacks don't know the history of slavery...or what that has to do with anything...The idea of slavery has been evil forever...

Read back in the archives, and you'll see constant shots being taken at the current administration by the "Peace Out" crowd. That includes name calling and derrogatory references to GW's perceived lack of intelligence. I'm sure YOU think that's O.K. because you happen to agree with those comments. When I make a totally civilized comment about your liberal Dem, however, that criticism is worthy of being censored SIMPLY BECAUSE YOU DON'T AGREE WITH IT. Steve you hit the nail on the head!...If you watch "Survivor" you know they can't. As my Leslie would say, look at those white girls go!!! They must have been on the swim team. That was not the norm in black America. They also forget we were slaves first! An important factoid. As to my reference to his color, He is a black man so is Tiger. Just as a child born to a Jewish mother, regardless of how they are brought up they are a Jew. If you were to look into most of our DNA you would find a little bit of everything, with the exception of the "waspy" Piedmont lineage. What ever color he is he is a breath of fresh air after the bastard that is embarrassing us all over the world every time he is on CNN or any show. The world is watching. Hillary I like her too. Too much baggage. Unfortunately. Look back at how our government has grown??? Check out when it was under republican control. In closing they should have our boy's & girl's overseas pack their bag and come home. Think of the miss guided people that voted for George with the excuse "the bad guys are going to come here and get us"? Boy did they get the wool pulled over their eyes! If they, the bad guys came over here??? First our FBI, CIA, ATF, Border, DEA and arm forces on our own land. Kick ass. Now lets get to the real deal. The Mob, The gangs, black, white and Mexican, the 1%bikers, the vet's of past wars. I think we would come out on top. Our citizens are better armed. Our Cops have a hard enough time. Enough. I kinda like what "Barack" has to say here...some of us are tired of those celebrities (Barack Obama, Halle Berry, Tiger Woods) who have, amongst other ethnicities, limited black lineage, being categorized as "black"...to me, it insinuates that is far more impressive, more stylish, to be "black" rather than "white", or in Tiger's case, "Asian"...but, gotta go now, working on a movie sequel to "White Men Can't Jump"...I'm gonna call it "Black Men Can't Swim".

I still have a ways to go in the archives, but I presume few or none of my slacker class ('74) have contributed much lately. Dean Butler is too busy with his documentary work and adding new "extras" for Little House DVDs. Any Hairys living in Alaska, especially Anchortown? I moved back here in May, and the winter has been so funky I can't remember why I did it. Thinking about Piedmont in May might help me get through the rest of this season, so keep the stories coming! (What the hell did we do in the summer? I remember a few trips to Santa Cruz, but mostly playing b-ball and getting beat up at the Beach courts in the shimmering heat.) Hello and belated Happy New Year to Mike DuFloth and all Hairys in their AARP Wonder Years. Nice to see so many of us still kicking, dancing and playing around with music and cars. DJ Grubb reminded me of the greatest French Dip sandwich I ever had at the The Sweet Shop. Of course, my taste buds back then were much more tuned in then they are now. None the less, nothing has ever come close. Deborah and I are living in SoCal and the Sweet Shops down here are more like Sweat Shops. Would like to find out if there are any plans for a 35 year reunion 'get together' or do all Class of '73ers need to wait till the 40th in 2013? Please advise if you know anything. All the best to every Hairy on the Net. Hey Holly H. - If you ever decide to run for office, you have my vote.

I got the date saved....and an airplane ticket to Portland in July!! Gonna meet up with y'all and celebrate Ashe's marriage! Hey Les!!!! KIM! I am very sorry I missed your show!! I probably got overwhelmed by my impossible schedule. I keep taking on more work and still go to school, never miss a day, no matter how little sleep I've gotten. Hopefully will have degree in hand in June...and summer will be freer to go to great shows!!! Election day in just about a week, so Everyone Please VOTE! Our system works only when everyone votes..unfortunately the majority of voters have been rich educated old white men....and that's who put Shrub in place for the last 7 years. Now we need everyone else to vote....hey, are any hairies rich educated old white men??? If so, please pardon my candor, I am not suggesting that any rich educated old white men NOT vote, I think if everyone votes, the true majority will produce the best leaders for our currently messed up government. Seriously, I know cause I got an "A" in Poly Sci 1202 this fall! :-)) <----me beaming proudly! Yes, I whooped some co-ed ass there..being not only the oldest student in the class, but 3 years older than the professor...and the professor really dug that! Dang, just checked out the site and saw the news about Robby Andregg, good beer drinking, MC riding pal of mine, more than willing to take it to the limit anytime. Like the time we showed up at 9PM in front of a party on the uplands in Oakland on our bikes; both of us hammered the gas, popped wheelies up the street raising hell. I shut it down on the top of 2nd gear for the 15 mph left turn coming up and Rob, not knowing the road, flew by me, unloaded his bike and he skidded along 30 feet of chain link fence on his back around the outside of the turn, 4 feet off the ground. I was still rolling, catching all the action right in front of me in my headlight, what a rush. After I parked and picked up his bike, I woke Rob up and he shook it off. We cruised back to the party and drank lots of beer to cool off his headache. I'm gonna miss him and his mining experiences from Nevada. Last time I saw him, he stopped in to Dan Seymours garage where I was working on my old Cad. That was about 4 years ago; Dang I hate losing friends like that. Hey Dave R. Dan says Hello, and Hello to all you other Parkies, Rock and Roll nut cases, and general rebellious souls. Here's one for Rob...Love ya Bro...

Hi. I'm back to homework procrastination and realized I haven't checked in since the end of September so scanned the postings to catch up. Holly is still in school, too. She has been copying me since 1955! Kim, The '72 reunion rocked. Karla was a no-show but I ran into her in December. Contact me and I will hook you up. Stuart, I see your boy from time to time at Whole Foods. What a sweetheart. He remembers Holly. Claire, great to see you here. I evoked your sister's name yesterday while musing about the obnoxious Bay Area real estate market. My son Gabriel (now 26) used to play with Kathleen's daughter- I think they tromped around in her heels as toddlers. By the way, Susan Polk owned the 4-plex next door to my Linda home (across from Beach) in the 1990's. She exhibited major pathology at that time and I had to take action on more than one occasion... Kathleen and I talked about it as Susan was tormenting your folks after the sale of your childhood home. Karma is alive and well-I am glad Ms. Polk will be locked away for the rest of my lifetime. Enough about her- Happy 2008 to all the Hairys and everyone else. Am counting the days until Jan 20, 2009. Take care, Kathy

Mike and fellow car culture people. My opinion, (which means nothing) there were some excellent buys for the better at Barrett-Jackson. I bet there were still excellent buys all over. Mike the ccccccccccc"clone" type cars were way down. Someone could buy an excellent car like yours that did was built recently for under $100K. That was not possible last year. Original cars like your, the one at Gooding (where the billionaires were) sold at $137K I think that was bought well and only going up. 9K mile car, Road Runner GTX. Under 70K miles are still low millage. As to your Dad's Cobra!!!!!!!!!! Over the top!~!!!!............ I see we have someone going to get "Whacked" at the Clubbie meeting in the sky. Who knows what tomorrow may bring. I talk to my Dad almost daily, the report of who has died is getting to be a weekly thing. I just need him around a little longer. I don't want to be selfish but I am in this case........... MILO??????? Someone would have to teach me how to ride a bike that far?????? When I grow up.. I am still waiting for a back ordered swing arm and looking into #6 if you know what I mean. Do they have training wheels for a 700LBS bike + a 200 ponder give or take? Who's going to work for me? Once I leave I may not come back for a while. To All. Kiss your familiars, you never know when you leave your house who is coming home? It might not be someone you want there. Not the fun stuff but from the Contra Costa Times--Stephen Ronald Pelusi May 6, 1945 - Jan. 6, 2008 Resident of Pleasant Hill Devoted son of Robert and Dixene Pelusi of Piedmont, CA; brother of Dr. Vicki Jax and Michael R. Pelusi; and uncle of Dominick and Margeaux Marie Pelusi and Robby and Christopher Jax. Predeceased by his wife Diana in 1995. Longtime resident of Pleasant Hill. Stephen graduated from Piedmont High School in 1963 and went on to Merrit College where he received his Associate of Arts Degree. Stephen was a maintenance manager by trade and a motorcycle aficionado. Stephen loved the challenge of the most difficult mechanical repair jobs. He will be fondly remembered as a kind son and brother who often put the needs of others before his own. Private ceremonies were held by the family. Thanhs Mike, for what you do for this web site. Because of this, I have been able to reconnect with some "OLD" friends from the early 70's. Some I have not talked to since high school. Others, like Stuart Pressman snd the Blythe's, Kenny & Diane Mockel, Keith Orr, Smitty, Pat Moffit, Drew Case, Steve Beals, and a few others I've been in contact with on a semi-regular basis over the years. I feel lucky to have made it this far in the game of life, considering all the crazy stuff we did as teenagers!!! My wife, Joni, and I are planing to ride to Washington DC again with the veterans leaving Sacramento Calif on May 15th. If anybody would like to join us, check out WWW.nvar.us, for the route and times. Any kind of motorcycle will do, not just Harleys. I Think we have Drew talked into going as well. How about it Robles? We'll pick you up in Nevada if you can get away for a while. I know Stuart did the ride back in 89. I recon its time for you to do it again, huh Stu? Hey Doug Duncan, it would be great to see you on the ride as well!! and of course, anybody that would like some more info. send me an e-mail. Later, Milo

Very sick time (like in the Johnny Cash movie, I am laughing). I never went back top my past life, I just walked away. That was very hard to do. That white powder stuff is a killer. I lived at the hotel for three weeks. I then got the flu and my baby finally felt sorry for me and let me come home. I am still laughing. I am still at home? Hi Dave, Kinky Mockel here, wow what a bummer about Rob, I have'nt seen him in years, but he always made the Keg parties, and he always had a beer if you needed one, and I atteneded a few drinking parties at his or your house, and you know I have trouble not abusing some of that shit myself, even today. You know I quit smoking, and I quit drinking, but that white stuff has been the hardest shit for me to stop f@#$ing with, and some times it pisses me off. I feel bad for Rob's family, because they should have been able to enjoy a lot more years with him, but when this reality of death hits so close to home, I need to wake the f@#$-UP before I end up in the same place. Hope life is GOOD for You, I heard you got hitched to a Good woman, and moved to Nevada I had to sell the Harley's a while back, but the future should bring more, missed you at the re-union, but had a blast, hey let's talk some time, I've got lots to tell you. Once again sorry to hear about Rob, but I know how hard it is to quit old habits,. I'm sure you do also. Thanks for the thought, Bill and Stuart. I am truly blessed. Casa de Robles was spared. Vallejo house is ok too. But I am sad to report to fellow Highlanders that today at about 5 p.m., Rob Anderegg died in a Reno hospital with his family by his side. He had been very ill for the last several years with various diseases related to his non-stop abuse of booze and cigarettes. For some of us, the party never stopped after high school, and Rob was a true party animal. We were close friends since our Wildwood days, later room-mates, and later, the Best Man at my wedding. I am glad that I got to see him in Sept. when I moved to Fernley, but I could see what was happening. Rob Anderegg was a true friend. and I will miss him.

Sitting here with my two sisters Susan ('67) and Dede ('68) and our mom in Stinson Beach...walking (make that 'stumbling') down memory lane. Having a great time reading over the old postings and looking up the old pictures. TOO FUNNY!!! So, when is our next reunion? After too much wine we are having heated debates about the cutest guys. Our ranking is: 1)no contest: Larry Mendelson 2) tie: Doug "Buzzy" Worrel 2) tie: Jed McGee 2) tie: Al Howard 3) close runner up: Chuck Lewis. In any case... happy new year to all. We are all humming: Piedmont Fighting Clansmen, Bold and Bonny Bunch We Eat Thistles for Our Breakfast ... Try getting this out of your head now... HA!

Always a pleasure at this time of year to thank Brother Michael DuFloth for hosting this site and allowing all of us to remain 16 or 17 for a few minutes whenever we come back to www.piedmonthigh.com for a moment. Whether it be car stories, or embellished sports remembrances, news of our classmates who are no longer with us or just good old PHS trivia--it is all good. Thanks Mike and to all a great 2008--one filled with fast cars for Stu-ie, fastballs for RoseBowl Clifford, fast music for Lefty Gimbal, and for all of us, the nostalgia of our Fast Times at Piedmont High...
