Mr. "Jet" SIR.
Where do I start. You should have been hangin with us? Where were you? The show that I slave for is above anything out there. Above me!! Million & Billionaires. I am a slave that runs slaves. But it has been so educiational for a gearhead like myself. It has also opened up doors and given me opertunities I would never have had. I can't explain as that would be throwing out the "B" word (brag). The bay bridge? I was a conservative unless I felt comfortable. To me that was unsafe and too many cars, too many cops. That didn't mean I was not in the car with my brother in law, Peter or Milo. They were regulars of speed records on that bridge. I would have been tightening my seat belt and screeming at you! That is what I did to them. For me the Cypress structure, the freeway that fell. The Richmond bridge, San Mateo too, no on ramps, just about any street in Piedmont - Oakland. As fast as the cars would go. I really turned it on during the the drug years on my bike. For some reason you get a fearless feeling on the bike at least I did. Thank God I lived through it unharmed! I would go tol Oakland for a beer 12 months of the year if I felt like it. My favorite thing to do was to pay back Peter for all those times he had me white knuckled in a car. He could do it to you in a milk truck if he chose. He lived on Dutton in San Lerandro in the 80's. I would be out with "MY FRIENDS" as he would say. We would stop in front of his house (blocks from the SLPD hi Tommy) and unload them, both jugs as fast and loud as possible anytime after midnight. His girl friend at the time Lorie told me we knocked them out of bed. My bike is what you would say on the louder side. It gave me such pleasure. He got so tired of it. I see the 442 stuff. If we had only realized it at the time. Little Berrnies was a factory drag car. W30, m22, 456 POSI. and the first owner did just that with the car. Shortlty after he got it he had to rebuild everythiong. I wish I had it today. Mr. Jet sir I got to go do some work for my baby.
Later.

Bob "Hawk", Barb, Simo, Kathy, Doug D., Stuart, Roy, calling all Hairys round the world, great to hear from you and sharing the memories and the tunes. Hawk - Mt. Hood is kicking ass and taking names so don't try it - at least wait until summer when the search and rescue team has even a remote chance of finding you ;-). I ride my motorcycles up there quite frequently as we live just a few miles away in the lava domes in the foothills of Mt. Hood and you can get lost quite easily - best part, no cops and great twisties to practice leaning it waaay over - probably one of the most beautiful places on earth. Any of you two-wheeler types who want to come visit and ride I will show you some awesome roads! Mt. St. Helens is just 30 miles to the north and we are waiting for another eruption -oh boy!
Simo - Mare says hi and you were (are) always one of her favorites - it was great to see you at the reunion. Stuart - I can remember hitting 110mph+ on the bay bridge in an Olds 442 that belonged to my cousin at around 2am - I doubt you could get away with that nowadays (Simo - the statute of limitations has expired...I hope). I used to try and "hit the ton" in that 442 on various streets, Highland, Piedmont, Oakland Ave, etc. Of course my '55 with 265ci was lucky to hit 80 down hill with a tailwind ;-). Later, I had a '47 Harley Knucklehead in a '58 swing-arm frame, slightly extended forks, and ran straight pipes - one of the wickedest sounds you've ever heard from an internal combustion engine - and the CHP really hated me. One time I got pulled over for absolutely nothing and within a minute or so I had 5 CHP surrounding me - fun times! No, really Occifer I am not Sonny Barger, I swear! In '74 I was living off Oakland Ave and saw a green '57 Chev BelAir parked on the sidewalk. I left a note on it saying "If you are interested in selling your car call me.." Sure 'nuff the guy calls me and I bought it for $550 - he had just finished squeezing a 427 w/4-speed into it - that car was WAY bad - my favorite part was the Hurst pistol-grip shifter handle ;-), not to mention burnin' rubber in all 4 gears. Like an idiot I sold it off to some hot-rod dealer in San Leandro and was foolishly unfortunate to purchase the aforementioned Royal "Oilfield"! Currently "restoring" a Porsche 914 - fun little car but quite the rust bucket - nevertheless great handling and economical too. Barb - I do remember your car. I also remember the time a couple of the football players lifted up one of the teachers (maybe Dr.Laird?) tiny Honda 600cc car (I forget the model - Morris Mini rip-off?) and placed in sideways on the sidewalk near the tennis courts! Stuart we have a pretty good concours event up here in Forest Grove - of course nothing comes close to Pebble Beach Concours! We also have Portland International Raceway and believe it or not Marilyn did clubman's racing there for 3 years on a Kawi 500cc! For Valentine's day in '97 I bought her a brand new Ferrari Yellow Ducati 748 - and trust me, she was the talk of the town! That girl could really ride and kept up with me and my buddies. Peace out and keep the faith.

Good morning all. It was a sad weekend as we say good by to the hardest working man in show business. The Godfather of soul. We will miss him but he live live on forever through his recording & the fact he tried to run the wife over with his car.
Bill, sorry to hear about Pat.
Mike I thought that Hipo "K" model was forest green but I was only 10 at the very end of 1966.
For some reason Russ and Shelly did not have the great cars choices the rest of the family did. No more Milens? You can still see it in the movie "Tucker". The parade scene is down Telegraph. They came out fine, The Oakland Raiders", founding owners. My uncle Lou took a chance on a small ball franchise? Later Sheldon and my Dad went into the dry cleaning business to pay for a salmon fishing boat. I worked out good for them. I emailed Scott, he will get Russ for you.
Happy New Year to all.
Remember The Godfather who lived life to the fullest.

Just checking in... I remember hearing from a former "Hairy" from Powhatan VA. (wife is a realtor, but was so long ago, I don't remember his name. Would be great to hear from any Hairys (once a Hairy always a Hairy). Would be great to hear from any Hairys living in the Mid-Atlantic states or anywhere else for that matter. It's been a very long time!!!!! Also, on a sad note, many of you might remember my brother Patrick. He's been homeless for several years as far as I know and is VERY ill. Received a call once from a doctor from Highland Hospital and Pat was apparently found in downtown Oakland unconscious. No other particulars. If anyone knows of his whereabouts, I'd appreciate a reply. I was fortunate to retire at 55 and have been writing a book dealing with neurologic deppression and anxiety. Also doing a lot of volunteering with pshchiatric patients as well as working part time in the Crime Prevention Unit of our county's police department. Been married for 31 years and have three great "kids". My eldest two have graduated from college, are married, and doing great. My youngest is still in college and as she puts it, "I'm pacing myself dad"... Well as long as she's under 25, I can still deduct her. Hope to hear from some of my former classmates. PHS was a great school and I still remember some really great times and friends. Happy New Year everyone!!!

Stuart Pressman: Do you, or Scott, have my "old" friend Russ Milenbach's E-Mail address? He was one of my best friends growing up in Piedmont--from 1959 through 1966. I moved to Modesto, with my family, during the Summer of 66. We talked at our 20-year reunion (1991), and I would like to contact him again. I ran into Russ' older brother, Brad, in Concord--ten+ yrs. ago & I asked him what he did with his 1965 (or 1966?) Mustang 2+2 Fastback? I think it was black with a red interior? I do not remember what he said, other than he wished it was in his garage today!! I believe Brad was working at Circuit City, when we ran into each other. Too bad about the downfall of Milen's Jewelers!!

Born to Run 1975 In the day we sweat it out in the streets of a runaway American dream
At night we ride through mansions of glory in suicide machines
Sprung from cages out on highway 9,
Chrome wheeled, fuel injected
and steppin' out over the line
Baby this town rips the bones from your back
It's a death trap, it's a suicide rap
We gotta get out while we're young
'Cause tramps like us, baby we were born to run
Wendy let me in I wanna be your friend
I want to guard your dreams and visions
Just wrap your legs 'round these velvet rims
and strap your hands across my engines
Together we could break this trap
We'll run till we drop, baby we'll never go back
Will you walk with me out on the wire
'Cause baby I'm just a scared and lonely rider
But I gotta find out how it feels
I want to know if love is wild
girl I want to know if love is real
Beyond the Palace hemi-powered drones scream down the boulevard
The girls comb their hair in rearview mirrors
And the boys try to look so hard
The amusement park rises bold and stark
Kids are huddled on the beach in a mist
I wanna die with you Wendy on the streets tonight
In an everlasting kiss
The highway's jammed with broken heroes on a last chance power drive
Everybody's out on the run tonight
but there's no place left to hide
Together Wendy we'll live with the sadness
I'll love you with all the madness in my soul
Someday girl I don't know when
we're gonna get to that place
Where we really want to go
and we'll walk in the sun
But till then tramps like us
baby we were born to run

This morning on the way to work I was thinking about police chases and the Piedmont - Oakland hills. Dougie & Peter on Doug's bike and our man in blue Fred Govia. I think when a cops adrenaline gets going they some times stop thinking. I forget what started it, Fred either heard Doug speeding earlier in the day or Dougie was just doing 35 in a 25? Anyway Dougie was going by his house (the hairy lawn) and Fred got a hair up his ass and tried to pull Doug over? That was it. Dougie was gone. For some reason Fred felt the need to chase him? Fred knew his parents, Fred knew where most of the real car guy's lived as he had been to many of our homes to speak to our parents. Doug's was a regular stop for Fred. The chase went all the way past King park at speeds well over 70 for Dougie. There was no catching him with a car. Fred should have stopped. He was the cop and the adult. At the top of the hill by the Leslie's, Hampton and Estates Fred lost it. Looped the car in the intersection. Dougie, left on LaSalle and in5to the Oakland hills. What did Fred do? He went to his house like he should have done in the first place. He endangered both riders, pedestrians and himself. I just saw Fred, he really was very good to us as kids. Dougie's other police chase was from Piedmont into the Oakland hills, He lost a bike cop and a patrol car. Doug got to Carl's house way above Montclair, put his bike in the garage. The two of them were celebrating when there was a knock on the garage door. It was the cop. Oakland had just put up their first helicopter. You can't loose them.
Peace out.
I was talking to Tyson yesterday about the time trials through St. James. As adults we were both appalled at that. In disbelief.

I guess since you listed your resume I should too. But with my memory loss Who knows.
1967 RS Camero, 1969 RS/SS 350 Pace Car Camero,
I alos had a 1970 & 1971 Camero's from our family business that graced my hands. 1970 "hippie Volvo", 1974 L82 Corvette Roadster, Want to burn it up? You know this I still have 1964 Ford Ranchero, a couple of useless Monte Carlos, 1959 Morris Minor Wood Wagon "Travler" "Gasser" Ford straight axle, Dodge 273 small block, big cam beautifully wheel well headers (my wife made me get rid of it?) 1950 Plymouth Special Deluxe, great car for riding around Monterey. Three F series 4 doors.
"Trashy" my 1967 Elcamino ZZ4, Great sound, no Honda sounds like this.
The bikes,
Mine 1964 Harley Davidson Sprint.
1984 FXRP Police bike, yes you can loose a cop on it if you are much younger, stupid and under the influence. If I had stopped, lets say I would still be on the inside.
Bikes that have past through my hands for long periods of time.
My favorite.
Peters 1971 single down tube ridgid frame chopper Harley Davidson Shovel. I had this for a few years and took it to Sturgis.
I also sold bikes and cars for people. I had another 71 Chopper for almost a year. Great fun.
1958 Pan that I took to several Redwood runs and Sturgis as a swing arm frame and chopper.
My FXRP that has been all over the country, drag raced & street raced. So fun. Now it is more fun to be healthy and alive.

No Honda sounds like a V8!

Stuart Pressman (trashy67@sbcglobal.net)

Tommy you are the Pony car king as I stated. First for the record as a kid I only lost one cop. A Piedmont cop through the city streets of Piedmont. On my bike during the drug years, CHP and OPD. Very scary. I don't think I would have tried it not under the influence and being awake for days. Enough.
You are right about the little cars of today. That is why I say that German cars is a great daily driver, but admit it if you had cash for both there would be muscle in your garage too???
OK,
My tyrant on street racing and the kids that had the muscle and didn't use it or know ho like those two mopars.
I won and lost gracefully. Nobody won all the time or they never pushed the envelope with more challenging opponents.
Steve Beals, what an instigator! We were in Montclair my car with the3 top down in winter. At the Chevron station skyline kid came in with a plain Jane blue Camero. Beals started right in on the guy. There was nothing I could do. Next thing I knew was I was the Warren racing and loosing (I am laughing). We ended up at the next off ramp, both cars burning a peace offering and begging for forgiveness.
My most scariest race was with one of Piedmont quiet and certainly one their most tough guys at the time. A tough guy someone you do not realize is one. Drew Case, his black Elcamino, South Main.
He chose a race with a GTX "440" 4spd. I was sure it was all over. We turned on to Treat BLVD. went into the country hit the first stop light. Drew rolled his window down and starting scream racial slurs at this car with 4 Mexican guys in it. I thought we were dead meat. They were now hanging out of the window screaming back. I was a chicken in the front hitting Drew telling him to shut up!!!! I though it was all over. The light turned green and to my surprise it was all over, we left them sitting there burning rubber as the GTX could not hook up.
Tom you know any car can be a road racer put to it's limits. We had three road racers that I believe in our time that were the best at that.
Maybe a little to unsafe and stupid. My brother in law. Mild meek straight a student John. He would road race in that 4 door Plymouth. Great skills. The time trial king af St. James, I think how unsafe it is as an adult, Tyson.
The king PSB, It could be an LTD, Thunderbird, His Gasser Plymouth, the 5er, most of all for road racing that Yellow Mach 1. Peter Sam the king of road racing. How do I know I was in the car. Tyson, PSB and myself would leave San Leandro on Redwood Rd. and do time trials to Skyline. In any car we had. For me the Lincoln was quite a learning experiance,365 horses. What I learned is if you could do that in a none muscle car when you got into one you were that much better. I believe if Greg or Matt practiced how to handle that Posi. their cars would not be totalled. Lack of experience. Milo's short lived time with a muscle car. His big block Mach 1, he Peter & Bernie were drinking at a clubbie party and left for Laguna Seca after mid night. They all fell asleep in front of the GM plant in Fremont and hit the wall. What a great car.
Barb. I didn't see you much at the three strips we used to cruz?? San Leandro, Walnut Creek & South San Francisco? I have a great South San Francisco story then I got to go to work.
Leslie (my Leslie) worked at the Kmart there, we were 19-20. I could no longer drive my Corvette due to my driving record. Our insurance made it so she had to be the driver or no coverage. She came home every Friday night to the city where we lived up the South San Fran. strip. One night she walked telling me about the guy's in the Mustang that harassed every Friday night. This night she came in and said she blue them away!!!!!!!! How is that for training your baby. We were the youngest. We had to learn to keep up (or try) with the best of our time.
Tommy can I go out with you and the siren?
Bob wheelies are very fun, but dangerous. I was taught by the best Bob Hash & Milo Anderson. Wheelies on a sport bike are easy, try it on a 650 pound bike, yeah baby.
Love & Peace to all.

Last comment on the subject for today. Neither one of those Road Runner drivers were true street racers! Myself, my best friend at the time "PSB" our neighborhoods top street racer, Kenny, Milo, Keith, Tyson, Drew Case these were true street racers at the time. Because your parents could write the check didn't make you a street racer. What I think about is eveytime I was showing off and called someone out to a race, I usually lost with a few exceptions. Every time, yes every time someone chose me out I won? Go figure. Even when I least expected it. Being the youngest off my friends I had to keep up. I was shocked to kick Simo's ass one night up on the Warren. He was in a big block automatic (that is why I won, the automatic sucked the power of the motor). Nobody was more shocked than I, when I hit third and pulled away all the way up to Redwood Rd. Beals was the instigator. I was reluctant, and Tom was in. My wife was with me. We were shocked. Street racing on my bike was much different. You won by trickery and stupidity. The Warren after 11PM or the Cypress structure on the Nimitz. They had no on ramps. You could almost come to a complete stop & have a drag race, yeah baby. If you were Peter or Dougie (on a bike for Doug) There was not a better racer in Piedmont or the Oakland hills.

Tom, When you talk about the German cars, your age is showing. I agree there is nothing more uncomfortable as my car. I worked the Otis Chandler auction last October. I got to drive great cars of the 30's down to a 1906 Napier. The gangster Packards & Pierce Arrows, I loved the Pierce. The modern stuff, 1963 Z06 big tank, big brake split window, 65 fulie fastback and my favorite color (can you guess wht that is?) 67 435 427 side pipe roadster, 997 and a Carerra GT (spelling) It's German and I am a liberial red neck American.

OK, I knew I could get a rise out of "MR. PONY CAR" Tommy Simo. Let me say, F--- the German's. Yes it is true, they build the finest daily drivers. If you had the cash, admit it you would have that German car and the Pony cars??? Admit it. Unfortunately in Germany they say build it!!! Or we will kill you! Oh that was years ago? I think? OK Bret Bob Farwell's Road Runner??? The only thing Hemi about that car was the color "Hemi Orange". There is one other expert on this sight ask him, Mr. Pony Car" and my brother Peter who is not here. Those Road Runners were pigs. Milenbach, my cousins. Excellent car family from the grandparents to Brad. Brad had a forest green "K" Hipo 1965 or 66 Mustang fastback then traded it for a 67-68 Shelby GT500KR that was stolen a few years latter. The Brad Thurman "Z's" awesome. The guy that bought the blue one drove down to Bixby bridge near Big Sur and committed suicide by driving off the cliff. Tommy No Barrett Jackson for me this year. I am thinking of taking the Corvette to Super Chevy in Fontana and making some passes on the drag strip. I have not done that legally (can I say that to a cop?) since the late 70's early 80's. The new motor I am curious will I beat my 14 flat? This motor we think is putting out an extra 130 horses over the stock one. I do know there is no comparison to the Germans. I had an A8L for 6 months, I loved it. I pray the Americans can do something. Now the blue collar super car "Z06" look out world. With A/C and cup holders.
Doug I knew you had it in you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah Baby!!! Glad to hear you have the replacement to my bike. The most bang for the buck after the FXR. I want to come to the next T-Bird show. You would think I have the inside scoop with Ska-t Guitar as my brother but I need to know. Be safe out there. Can you make that 650 LBS. bike dance? I used to until I decided I wanted to live a little longer. Wheelies and burnout's are so fun on a bike that size. Also the drag strip on a Harley that has been "massaged" I can't tell you how fun that is. All you have to do is pray and hold on!
Bring your check book as thing explode on the strip. Well worth the rush.
Peace and love.

Bret! Good to hear the stories & that you're doing well; say "hi" to Mare for me! Stuart! Are you going to AZ in Jan? I'll be there on 1/19 & 1/21. I too recall the cars of Piedmont & Montclair: Kaffel's 442; Mockel's Chevelle; Batagious' outrageous Plymouth; Hecht's SS; Turman's M-22 Z/28 (both of them);anything DeSilva drove & didn't wreck; the "dueling" RoadRunners from Betts & Farwell; Baker's Camaro; Nelson's 914; Sullivan's Challenger; Thompson's Z/28 before he wrecked it in Montclair; Leslie's Camaro SS; Brian Herrera's LT-1 Vette; Matt Madison's Sunbeam Tiger & all the rest. If any of us knew what those cars would be worth today-we'd all be rich! I think I'm finally happy with a German "pedigree" because "there is no substitute"

Hey Doug D. good to hear you are still riding. I remember you used to let Don Little ride yer scoot - one time he was on your Sporty and I was on my '69 Royal Enfield (a.k.a.Oilfield) 750cc. We were riding up the hill past the Mormon Temple and my tranny blew apart at the seams...ah those were the days! ;-) We used to dream of ridin' cross country on Harleys. Yeah, Stuart, CV is heaven on earth, truly. We lived out in the valley near Las Laureles grade and also in the hills above the village and later in Carmel two blocks from the beach - I had a paper route on 17-mile drive. Went to CHS through 10th grade. Yep, I agree - Soooo many great cars in Piedmont and gearheads too, Farwell with the Hemi, Steve Leslie Camaro, Keith Richards Firebird, Kathy R. MG and Shelly Milenbachs Fiat ("Fix It Again Tony") and Triumph Stag, Rugaard's Mustang, McVeigh's Yellow Vette, Calonico brothers Vettes, Mark Porter BMW 2002, Tom Simonetti GTO, Lyn Daniels yellow Mustang, Mr. Morrison's - I thought it was a T-Bird?, besides the ones you mentioned. I actually owned a Jaguar (Draguar) XK "E" type a year after I graduated - sold it for $2k, now worth around $50-60k. Who knew? I remember when Ann Magee's dad who was a Piedmont cop told her that my primer grey "custom" '55 Chev with 18" steering wheel was a piece of sh*t and that I better not be screwing around in Piedmont - hilarious! Gas was something like $.24/gallon! I could cruise all night on $2.00 worth.

Mrs. Knee the JR. High math teacher, her double bubble Zagato Abarth road racer. She raced it on the weekends and then drove it to school. Ron the janitor who built cars at home including his black Nomad. Mr. Morrison and his 1954 Corvette. Then for me was the older kids. Jerry Oppenheimer and his many cars his money afforded him especially his 55 Chevy. Trebitich? Spelling and his 40 0r 41 Chevy hot rod. I could go on. All $500.00 cars now worth a fortune.

Mokel & Orr boy's Corvette 61 Starliner. We had an awesome selection of muscle cars. The older Chovanes and his Fairlane, I could go on, but I have to get to work. I know there are more. Mokles girl friend's Cyclone and Tyson from San Leandro's yellow Cyclone. I still have two muscle cars. One from just out of high school my Corvette and my Elcamino that I built in 95. Smitty & Remo's Corvettes!!!!!!!! I volunteer / am on the committee for the Pebble Beach Concours and have been learning about awesome cars I did not know existed. Really fun.

I do love the Ducati's, and their sound. To me it has to be loud! We live right in the village and have for over 22 years now. I think I have achieved local status. Their is a Mike on this page that lives in the mountains behind the village, although I have not met him yet. He has been here even longer. It is heaven here. Big car community here as well. Hello Bill Clifford. About ten years before you, I and another Kimmer were in the basement of a Rigma. The inhabitants of the house were gone for the weekend. We looked about for regalia and found a treasure trove of Rigma jackets, a lion, and part of a stolen kimmer shield. Just as we were about to take the loot, we noted flashing red lights. The Piedmont Police were at the front door. We decided not to greet them and exited out the back, traversed many back yard fences, and then rushed off to a high school dance. We probably were out of breath and sweaty. I wonder if the piece of kimmer shield was ever returned to the Shielding.

Good to hear you ride yer bike - I got into Ducati's and other sport bikes some years ago and I also like to put on the miles - in fact I was down in Carmel Valley two years ago on my Honda CRB900RR (yeah, I know, squid bike!). It is also a past poster bike, shriner parade bike. He stoped riding that bike in 1986 when he went modern at that time. We both have FXR's from the 80's. His is still perfect, mine has double the miles, motors triple the tranny's and abuse, YEAH baby. His has seen Oakland mine has seen the country. FXR's the most bang for the buck in the world of H.D. Bob "The Hawk" Coomber ('73)is a true inspiration! The guy was a physical wreck from diabetes - being diagnosed in his late 20's and I recall visiting him in Oakland in '86 or so when Marilyn (Coomber) and I were living out in Castro Valley. He was down to about 130 pounds and could barely move! I was totally heart-broken as were all of his friends and family. Slowly but surely he got his life together and learned how to deal with it - now look at him - a veritable superman climbing mountains in a wheelchair! He was on the Today show or something and you should've seen the look of incredulity on the other hikers and mountain bikers faces when they saw a dude in a wheelchair climbing up the rocky paths - hilarious! Oh yeah, he also bench presses 300+ pounds with virtually no leg push. He's the same ol' Bob, out-going, optimistic and always with the quick wit - the life of the party. I'm proud to know ya bro'-in-law. Whenever I think I've got it tough I just picture you in the gym dragging those 45 pound plates tied to your chair! I forgot to mention he is also a V.P. with Wells Fargo. A true success story in every sense of the word.

PIEDMONT at MIRAMONTE - NCS (2A) FIRST ROUND PLAY-OFFS - SAT NOV. 18th - 7:00 PM
The Highlanders' crushing victory over St. Mary's last Friday, evened
their record at 5-5 and earned them a spot in the NCS play-offs as
the #6 seed. The Highlanders drew the #3 seed Miramonte Matadors
(7-3-0), who lost their final game to Campolindo (21-20), with the
Cougars scoring a touchdown with 5 seconds left in the game.
Piedmont lost to Campo (23-22) by a field goal with 7 seconds left in
game 1 of the season. This is the Highlanders' second consecutive
play-off berth and a win against rival Miramonte would be a huge
accomplishment for the football program. Miramonte has full visitors
stands on our side of the field and we hope to see our fans out in
full force Saturday night! Dress warm!

It works. Do not despair. Michael, we used to have a lot of fun on the old Havens play yard. In those incorrect days, we even wore cowboy outfits, with cap gun six shooters. Eventually around 1948, they prohibited the packing of cap guns. For a while we would run about with empty holsters using sticks or forefingers as pistols. This just didn't seem as fun and the practice died out. Now in those days, most kids either walked to school (Havens),rode their bikes, or rode the street car which would stop just across from the Driscoll Playhouse ( the tracks were on Highland Ave.). I cannot recall when we lost the street car. I believe sometime around '49 or '50. - what a shame !!! JA

Hi John Austin, I enjoyed reading your memories, from 1951, of Mrs. McCarger--the marching Havens School Traffic Patrol--and the Ellen Driscoll Playhouse!! When I was a member of the Traffic Patrol (at Frank C. Havens School-in 1964-65) our "leader" was Sargent Vacey (sp?) from the Piedmont Police Dept. I remember marching to & from our assigned street corners, & earning "gold stars", etc... By the way, my wife & I took a walk in Piedmont, yesterday, and stopped in front of the Ellen Driscoll Playhouse-after walking around what used to be the Havens School Playground Area. The fairly large blacktopped part of the school grounds--where we used to play at recess, P.E., & after school sports--is now nearly completely filled with modular classrooms. I was really surprised & wondered where the children have P.E.?? Then, we came across a small "fairly new" looking "multi-purpose" building, with a wooden floor--and the room is about the size of a basketball court--but there was no basketball court? How times change.......

We march in step; red jackets pressed, yellow hats with insignia, and stop signs at right shoulder arms. Our hearts are filled with pride. After all, it is 1951 and
we like Ike and America leads the world.

Does anyone recall the name of the older woman who used to travel the Piedmont grade schools telling stories. It was around 1947-50. She was such a treat; dressed the 1930s fashion with hair cut like Emily Dickenson; a rather expressionless
face but her stories were fascinating. She used no notes. Class discipline was never a problem as we all sat around her - rapt.

John, I also have fond memories of Havens, Mr Brown, Miss Stevens. She was my 5th grade teacher. I also had a woman named Miss Arbagast. Im not sure of that spelling. She was really into the Mexican culture and always had sombreros and lots of cool Mexican stuff to play with.
The old Havens prior to the rebuild was an old mission style architechure. In fact it reminded me of an old Calif Mission I can remember getting my first polio shot at havens. I was really scared and didn't want to go to school that day..

Hello Mike. Yes. MR Brown had a long history at Havens, but he did not have to do music when he started, for we had Mrs. McCarger, the ubiquitous music teacher. She would run the Christmas Pageant in which we would sing carols, hymns, and a few hannukah songs; each class having a few well rehearsed tunes; all this in the Ellen Driscoll Play House. She would also play the Triumphal march from Aida when the traffic patrol marched around the auditorium. We were so proud, swinging our red stop signs, marching in perfect order in our red coats and yellow hats. - all under the watchful eye of Mrs. "Colonel" Lowther. Very very un-70s and very very 50s. Religious music and quasi-military formations on the school property.

Anyway, sorry we didn't have the 35 year reunion, but I'll look forward to seeing everyone, especially the T-Birds again in 5 years. Greetings Highlander Fans,
GAME 5 VS SALESIAN:
After a convincing win against Oakland High (42-0), the Highlanders take on a strong (3-1-0) Salesian team Friday night, at Witter Field. Salesian is bringing a high powered running game featuring Javid Best (#4), who is one of the country's highest recruited running backs. This should be one heck of a football game and the Highlander's defense is up to the task. Salesian has its work cut out too trying to stop Piedmont's speed featuring Will Conn, Peter Modera, Brendan Newland and Tono Celotto. One of the biggest crowds in years is expected and we look forward to your support at the game!
7:00 PM - VARSITY
4:00 PM - JUNIOR VARSITY
1976 CHAMPIONSHIP HALF-TIME CELEBRATION:
There will be a half-time celebration honoring the 30th anniversary of Piedmont's last North Coast (2A) Championship team (1976). Almost the entire team and coaching staff has made the trip to Piedmont from all over the country. There is special significance of the event taking place at the Salesian game, as Piedmont beat Salesian in the Championship game that year to win the title.
The team is having a dinner at the Community Center starting at 5:30 and will be attending the game. There is a post game party at the Community Center and the admission cost is $5.
Hope to see everyone there!
Beat Salesian & Go Highlanders!

To John Austin--What I meant to write, in my last sentence, "I am not aware of any OTHER published history of Piedmont--other than "Queen of the Hills", The Story of Piedmont, A California City, by Evelyn Craig Pattiani. By the way, when I was in the 7th Grade, at Piedmont Jr. High (1965-66), my locker partner during P.E. was a boy named Gordon Craig. I do not remember if he was related to Evelyn Craig Pattiani? But, I do remember that my father & I were driving south on the old State Hwy 17 (The Nimitz Freeway)--probably on a Saturday morning & a news report came over the radio in my father's Rambler--The report said that Gordon had died the night before, up on Mt. Diablo--while on a Boy Scout Trip. I believe that he fell off a rock outcropping--possibly in an area that was fenced off? (God rest his soul.) It was so strange opening up our locker, on Monday morning & seeing Gordon's gym clothing & "tennis" shoes inside. I asked Coach (Jack) Albiani what I should do with those items--and he took them into the coaches' office? It is amazing how some memories stand out over so many other incidents!! By the way, Coach Albiani moved his family to Modesto (about five years, or so, after my family moved to Modesto). I was studying at U.C. Davis at the time. My youngest sister, Diane, went "steady" with Jack's son, Greg! How is that for proof that it can be a "Small World"!!

To John Austin--In 2005,I bought a copy of the 1982, "Special 75th Anniversary Edition" of Piedmont "Queen of the Hills". There were a few copies for sale on a website called--abebooks.com--The "Original Edition" was printed in 1954, and the author was Evelyn Craig Pattiani. She was the daughter of Piedmont's first appointed mayor, Mr. Hugh Craig. I am not aware of any published history of Piedmont?

Hi John Austin. I did not realize that Mr. Brown had been at Havens School since ~ 1951? He must have had some musical talent? Our class graduated from the 6th Grade in the Spring of 65. Mr. Brown worked with us for weeks, using the piano (in the school auditorium next to the tiny Safeway Store) & his musical background--and he taught us to sing a number of songs from the movie "The Sound of Music". The three 6th grade classes worked hard memorizing the songs--and we sang them for our families, etc...the afternoon that we graduated!! By the way, how long were you stationed at Fort Greeley, Alaska? Did you manage to stay out of Vietnam?

Hello Debi Marcus Ziegler!! Wow, it has been a long time. The morning that JFK was shot, & the loudspeaker came on in Miss Derringer's Classroom--Russ Milenbach (who was sitting next to me) said jokingly--"I'll bet the President has been shot". It is amazing to me that he guessed what all the noise was about. The loudspeaker had the radio blaring & alot of commotion & people yelling. I believe that it was shut off within about 5-10 seconds? Not too long thereafter, Mr. Brown's voice came over the loudspeaker & he announced that President Kennedy had been shot & killed in Dallas--and we were excused early for the weekend. (It must have been nearly lunch time?) I do not remember the plans for our class to attend the opera that day. Scott Pressman's comment says that he was at Wildwood Elementary School & he remembers being ready for the opera. Maybe all three grammar schools were signed up for the opera that fateful day??

When JFK was killed i was in the Army at Ft. Greeley Alaska far far from Piedmont. I wonder if anyone has written a history of Piedmont since the 1950s era book called "Queen of the Hills".

My family moved to Piedmont in 1959--when I started 1st grade at Frank C. Havens Elementary School. We lived on the corner of Blair Avenue & Hardwick. I have many fond memories of going through the grades at Havens School, playing sports, working my Oakland Tribune Paper Route & then moving to Modesto--the summer after finishing 7th grade at Piedmont Jr. High (1966). Probably my strongest memory, during these formative years in Piedmont, was in 5th Grade (Miss Derringer's Class). It was the day that JFK was shot in Dallas. Mr. Brown, our Principal at Havens, made the announcement right before lunch, on a Friday--and then we were dismissed early!!
I went to U.C. Davis, starting in the Fall of 1971--and ran into a few of my childhood friends from Piedmont--Gail Keene, Jerry Bushberg, Robin Locktov, etc...I was fortunate enough to make the Varsity Golf Team, and start, as a freshman at UCD.
After college, I worked for various federal resource management agencies--before getting married, in 1981. I have been selling valves for piping systems (and related items) since I left the U.S. Forest Service. In 2005, I started Foster Flow Control--based in Pittsburg.
It would be an experience to attend the 40th Reunion, of the Class of 1971.
In 1991, I helped plan the 20yr. PHS Reunion--of the Class of 71. (Thanks to Debbie Bartlett--who returned my phone call!) The Reunion was held at the Claremont Resort & Hotel. It was fun visiting with some many of the "old gang"--but, I came away from the event with a harsh reality!! My memories of Piedmont were from grammer school & one yr. of Jr. High--whereas most of my friends' memories were from PHS (1967-1971). Very few people were interested in my stories &/or memories......By the way, I found out about this website from Dennis Miller, at the Chapaaral Barber Shop, this morning......Mike Foster (Would have been in the Class of 1971)

Katie, Stu and all else who've been so suppotive...I just got back after a few days attempting to summit my favorite 14,246' peak north of Death Valley. Missed it by about 1,000 vertical feet, altitude just caught up with me. But what a trip! It's as close as I've gotten, saw some bighorn sheep playing at 14,000 or so, and it's very possible we'll try again within a few weeks, making some changes in diet and pace to stave off the effects of huge pieces of exertion above 10,000 ft. Lots of digging through small rocks on the trail, as my front wheels would get caught in the loose, scrabbly rock. Made it slow, and frustrating. But 4 days under a full moon, little wind, no lightning...it just doesn't get much better!

I remember the sad story of how the clubs were banished. I believe it was the Kappa Shield that was vandalized (most likely by Rigmas). The club members would regularly steal each others regalia. The Rigma lion was constantly stolen and restolen. A large Kimmer shield was taken back and forth. Eventually some Rigmas sawed it into pieces. I, in my innocence, once entered a private home through open basement windows and was about to remove some Rigma jackets when the police arrived. I was young and agile, the Police were older and stout. there were fences. I got away. Rather silly, but harmless, for there was no damage to school property.

Ok! y'all the question I asked never really was responded to. What was the the final straw that caused the Rigmas, Kapas, and Kimmers to be banished from the all mighty Piedmont High School. No longer to be sanctioned and
blessed by the Principal, Dean of Boys,Dean of Girls,or any one else. Allright then.......
It was a thursday night in 1959. As I recall it was just after the PHS Carnival. thats right PHS had a "Carnival Day "back then Cakes, cup cakes,Ice cream, and the "dunking booths" all three clubs had these booths You would pay like .25 cents to toss a baseball and if you hit the target one of the club members would be in the water. It seems that that there was a rather large rivalry, and sometime over the weekend one of the clubs chiseled the concrete shield right of the wall of the Quad. Does any one remember the Quad?? or what is a Quad anyway. That Monday the proverbial S--t! hit the fan. and one week later the clubs were gone...... You used to be able to wear your club jackets to school. No more!!! the clubs were not sanctioned and became kinda wild..for those times. Of course now we would all have tatoos and be doing drive by's on Seaside Ave. The Piedmont cannine squad and Swat unit would have three or four of us pepper sprayed and on the ground. Any Way,thats how I recalled it..... MIke

I'm just glad to have grown up in an era where tough-guyism and bad boyism gave way to mellow/psychedelic partying and good music. There's definitely a certain 'romance' to the biker-greaser-kickass life style. (I've read Sonny Barger's autobiography). But I still like the Grateful Dead, surfing, riding around on my '70 Honda 90, playing bluegrass, and finding the deep groove... For those of us who came of age during the Woodstock era, it'll always be that way. Having said that, If I were a rich man, I'd own a big boy Harley Dangerous too... Meantime the Woodstock spirit still lives on here in Chico...by the way, have ya'll checked out youtube.com? All your favorite band videos are there for free...from the dead to steppenwolf to allman bros to aretha to otis redding...haven't seen the fabled T-Bird video from Ellen Driscoll though...

"i'll agree that the food isn't great and the service can be a little rough, but i love this place. the old school bar has entertainment 4 nights a week. The maitre'd is this ancient guy who calls himself Bing. he's the cantonese Bing Crosby. Whether its Karaoke on Wed and Thursday or the ONE MAN BAND on Friday or Saturday, Bing does a set of 3 or 4 songs a night. they're all kooks! yes, you probably will be the youngest person there, but the people are nice and the drinks ain't bad. i'd eat somewhere else and head straight to Dino's bar."
This is a random review that I discovered online. I thought a few might get a chuckle out of it.

PS.
Kim I bet we can come up with a far larger list of bullies than tough boys. I also bet the names you have written down were excellent nice people. I remember three of your four and they were nice kids as I remember. Jocks? Tobias, I think so. Connie was a car guy. The best kind of guy. Exclusionary is one of the main reasons these clubs went away. Not PC.

Kim,
Good morning. They think they were bad boy's. Some were. Most that thought they were bad boy's that I saw were bullies. Real bad boy's don't let it be known. Now I love going to reunions etc. and seeing the out of shape can barley get off the couch bullies. I love shaking their hands.
Kim when are you guys have a big Chico music weekend again? Spark and any others?

The clubs... legend has it they were booted out of school some time in the '50's. Believe it or not, there were some serious 'rumbles' back then between rival clubs. I know in my dad's day (kapa, class of '44) the clubs were still school sanctioned. I believe the era of James Dean and the whole 'Rebel Without a Cause' thing was the catalyst to whatever finally caused the school board to oust the clubs, thus branding them forever outlaws. And Stu, maybe the clubs were candy-ass in your day, even in mine (peace and love, bro), but there were some bad boys involved for sure. Some of the legendary names were Lowell Cisco, Bob Tobias, Bob Morgan, Connie Menudiado. These guys and others in their day, I'd put up against anyone, anytime, anyplace...

"Outlaw Clubs"????? Piedmont???? Let's all have a big laugh. I was a clubbie only because my friends were. They even argued to get me in. I have also seen real "Outlaw Clubs" in my life after leaving Piedmont. Our Sunday school kids called "Outlaw Clubs"? Try not politically correct. That would be a much better term for the candy ass Piedmont clubs that yes I was a part of.
Mike you do us all a great service. You will go down in history as the Piedmont web master.

I do here and now state without reservation that you are my main man. You have done your due diligence in maintaining this site for low these many years. There is an element out there in cyberland that may cause you some consternation on occassion. I salute your efforts to purge where necessary. As much as I am tied to some members of our Piedmont community, I find myself shaking my head in wonderment at some of the low topics presented here. What of the T-Birds? What of Doug Duncan's feats? What of Howard Robbins' speech patterns? What of Dale Zenor's early athleticism? What of Tom McChristy? What of Rich Butler and his unbelievable feats of ardor? These topics are sorely missed in favor of the more mundane of late... Be ever vigilant Mike Dufloth!! Continue to lead us back to our days of glory!!!

I talked to Denny, Barneys brother a couple of months ago. We were good friends in HS. and Dracena Park was our "hood". Do you remember Sheri Pierpont? I was a hairy kamikaze pilot - they gave me a plane but I couldn't fly it - sittin' at the Hairly Lawn with Mike Betts ('74) in the summer of '72 and a case of beer waiting for something...anything to happen - listening to Tower of Power, Traffic, Lou Reed Rock n' Roll Animal, Motown The Temptations with Craig "Testy" Estudillo...pulling all-nighters with Keith "Jackie" Richards('73) and John "Gibby" Herrerias ('73) - playing b-ball at the rec and Linda with Bob "The Hawk" Coomber and now I am married to his sister, my high school sweetheart, Marilyn Coomber Hittleman - cruisin' the Piedmont hills in my ol' '55 Chev in "custom" primer gray I bought from Mark Calonico for $50 - bottle of Johny Walker Black under the front seat - smoking funny cigarettes with Marlene (last name omitted to protect the guilty) at lunch, all the crazy parties - getting called into Mr. Morrison's office for the 18th time for cutting class (got out of it by talking about cars)- but hey, I actually graduated - even if I was 243rd out of 246 - racing Steve Leslie and Bob Farwell down Highland Ave at 3:30 a.m. at 100+ mph, getting wasted at Confuscious after the A's won the world serious, philosophizing with Steve "Frenchie" Frye, massive parties at Tom "Dough Boy" Pillsburys, Don Little my hero, the Abbotts, The Tyler Bros, Lori Licht (ooh la la!), Kiki Silverstein, Shelley Milenbach, hanging out at the Bagans listening to Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album over and over...getting wacked for the privilege of wearing the Green & Yellow - "All Men Grow In Righteousness", The Beautiful Ruxton and Watson sisters, Jabbar Zischke (he is alive and well and living near Seattle), crashing on Molly Bonningtons couch - the time Chris Abbot locked Doc in the closet and then we all ditched class out the window - going to the Big Game (Stanford vs Cal) high as a kite with Mary Townsend - gosh I could go on and on - once a hairy always a hairy - keep the faith! To Bob Coomber, The Whites your thinking of were at 48 Dracena, good memory. My family, same name, was at 160 Dracena, the corner of Blair and Dracena I grew up with Bill,Jim,and Tom. We always thought we were related in some way. Your thought about the family being a " warm and together bunch" is correct. I spent alot of time with the other Whites and have great memories. I think that Bill White senior died early this year. I graduated from Piedmont in 64 so Im a little older. I have many stories to tell about Piedmont High, Dracena Park, Denny Pierpont and his brother Barney who, someone thought graduated in the 50's which he did. Barney was in a non school club called the "My eyes" I remember one warm summer night I was in the 7th grade at Havens and the My eyes were having a party at Barneys moms house on Parkway, Denny and I were there serving "punch" we didn't know it but it was seriously spiked with booze. The Piedmont police arrived and broke the whole thing up. Denny and I went upstairs and laughed our asses off. I had many fast cars at Piedmont...more stories... Mike

Dear Audiominer ... I've worked diligently the past 10 years to provide the HairyNet service for all who choose to visit, and I've spent my valuable time updating and maintaining the site when necessary for over a decade. During that time I've had quite a problem with SPAMMERS posting links and advertisements, so when I saw that your posts were not Piedmont High related, and noticed you used a handle rather than a real name, and saw that there was no designation for a class year and that you had posted links out which were also not related to Piedmont High, I quickly deleted them, just as I always have deleted non Piedmont High related posts. I see now that you have posted in the past, and without having spent much time looking back through the old postings, I also see that it appears you even know some of the fine folks from Piedmont High ... so please, let me make something perfectly clear ... I have no political agenda whatsoever on PiedmontHigh.com, but I do take offense to your tone toward me and your lack of respect and civility for all my efforts, which you seem to think you are entitled to. It's such a shame that in all these years you haven't learned that being born to privilege doesn't give you license to be rude .. and especially not to me ..... because I am not only one of your fellow Piedmont High graduates, but I am also your loyal HairyNet webmaster and servant ...... as well, I serve on the "Hairy Lawn Brotherhood Board of Directors" and I currently hold the esteemed title of "Exalted Ruler" ... which was passed on to me in the Confucius Bar on Lakeshore Ave late one Friday night in 1970 by the honorable Denny Pierpont ... so if you actually are a Piedmont high grad then I must have forgotten to say this to you in high school: "ROLL A FAT ONE BROTHER, WE'LL CRUISE UP TO REDWOOD AND LISTEN TO MY NEW ELECTRIC FLAG ALBUM ON THE 8 TRACK, AND YOU CAN MELLOW OUT DUDE!."

Just because you may happen to disagree with someone's posting here does not give you the right to delete the post on HairyNet.
Thats not good P.R. for a webpage called: "Piedmont High ClassMates Bulletin Board".

We put our lab stools up on the lab counter and sang our "lungs out" Mr. Waxdeck was singing along with everyone else. I remember my sister doing a call of a Pumulating bush tit. Who would have ever thought it would have become what it is today. Many fond memories for sure. I was a Rigma Lion and enjoyed my years at Piedmont. Your comments are right on the money! After the Chron article, I was able to get into a steel, rigid frame chair with independent rear suspension (better to keep the wheels planted), and a true custom fit. They don't as of yet, make a suspended titanium chair. This chair is awesome, I hike almost everywhere in it. Just came off a trail yesterday east of Ebbetts Pass (Hwy 4), a part of the PCT with 1500 feet of elevation gain - a typical Sunday hike for me. Braking is done by simply grabbing the wheels with some thick neoprene kayaking gloves. And I finally picked a pair of not - too aggressive knobbies, which I can adjust (air pressure) to get up darn near anything. If you read "Backpacker" magazine, there's a big article about last year's White Mountain trip in the May'06 issue. My flaw in the plan was trying to do a 15 mile round trip, all over 12,000 feet, as a day hike. This year I'm packing the tent and bag to stay at White Mtn's base, over 13,000' and can get really, REALLY windy at night...80 - 100 MPH isn't uncommon. I have between now and the middle of Sept. to try at least once more. I practice on the east side of Mt Diablo, which is steeper than anything in the White Mtns, but you can't prepare for the thin air! The CBS thing may happen, if I let them know...I'm a little timid about seeking sponsors (maybe I need an agent?) because I hike for my own satisfaction, not to be a "celebrity". However, if it helps people to change their attitude about whatever circumstances life has tossed their way, then I hope I can be inspiring. No book deal yet, as I wouldn't have the foggiest idea how or to whom to sellit...but the notes and ideas are in place, anyway...thanks so muchfor the kind words!!!

Greetings B.C., just viewed the sfgate.com article highlighting your unique hiking style adventures. In the text you state: "A titanium frame would be wonderfull because it's super- light, but it's prohibitively expensive". plus you also state: "Knobbies could make things easier, but they cause more erosion than regular wheels I don't want to be any harder on the trails than I have to". I am an avid hiker/mountain bike fanatic & I may have come up with a solution to both of those topics that you may want to consider: 1.Do as much research as required until you can locate a sports company to sponsor you with a FREE titanium frame in exchange for promoting their products on national TV. 2. You will need the most efficient equipment available to achieve your goal & that includes installing knobbie tires to enable the best friction control between you & the point of contact. Public trails are created for multi-access use(hiking, biking, equestrian)& are maintained for erosion control. If I were you I would not be as concerned about soil erosion as much as how I plan to ascend/decend a 14,000 foot elevation summit successfully. I will be watching for your victory trek this summer on TV! BEST OF LUCK B.C.!!!

Debi, Lyn - I'm planning my next try at a 14,000 foot peak as we speak. Hopefully, by the end of August, I'll have something really cool to report.Lots of logistical stuff to arrange, as a film crew has expressed interest in coming along, as well as CBS News. Maybe I'll just shut up and GO, without letting anyone know...
I'll say HI to Mare next time I talk to her. Take care!

Appreciate the kind words, Katie. I think it was quite a revelation for this NYC based crew to tape me going all over the East Bay hills...the host actually bailed, got a ride up to the top in the park district's Jeep. A fun day! And Letterman and I have talked a few times lately, the producer is waiting until the show is off summer hiatus.
If there were one thing I was never short of, it was optimism! The thought that I could do damn near anything I wanted to never left me, and has seen me through some very difficult times. Some are trying to get me out there to do some motivational speaking - but I have no idea where I'd find an agent willing to work for peanuts. I've not ever been at a loss for words, so it might be my calling in the near future!

I fell in love with motocycles after riding Otis's Honda 90 into a wall. That hurt, so it had to be fun! Brain Damage
(Waters) 3:50
The lunatic is on the grass.
The lunatic is on the grass.
Remembering games and daisy chains and laughs.
Got to keep the loonies on the path.
The lunatic is in the hall.
The lunatics are in my hall.
The paper holds their folded faces to the floor
And every day the paper boy brings more.
And if the dam breaks open many years too soon
And if there is no room upon the hill
And if your head explodes with dark forebodings too
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.
The lunatic is in my head.
The lunatic is in my head
You raise the blade, you make the change
You re-arrange me 'til I'm sane.
You lock the door
And throw away the key
There's someone in my head but it's not me.
And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear
You shout and no one seems to hear.
And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.
"I can't think of anything to say except...
I think it's marvelous! HaHaHa!"

Do YOU RECALL what you WERE DOING the FIRST TIME you EXP "The Dark Side Of The Moon"?(1973)

Dave & hi to my neighbor Roy too. We could have a Piedmont High biker page. Dave, myself, Drew Case, Peter Batagios our most famous, in the most magazines for his rat bike "Milo" (Milo got me started at a very young age, he is responsible for all my trouble!!!!)(just kiding) & our most legendary. On June 2nd it will be ten years since Piedmont lost it's most legendary biker. He was the only one not to ride a #1, Harley Davidson. He rode a Honda and went in to the hills of Oakland, Contra Costa & kicked ass. On June 2nd. have a drink or some bud for our friend and Piedmont's orignal wild one Dougie DeSilva. The rest of us bikers should all meet somewhere for a Tequlia sometime. It has to be the expensive Tequlia, Dougie would have it no other way.
We miss you Dougie if you are reading this.

I'm just posting this to brag a little bit to anyone from the Class of '72. I just won the Pulitzer, together with four colleagues. We helped bring down U.S. Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham, who's now serving 8 years in jail because of our work. And now there's a whole sex scandal angle including a shakeup at the CIA.
On a totally different note, I'm said to hear about Herr Haselden's death. He was one of my favorite teachers (although at Piedmont, there were a few).
On yet another note, any news on whether there's going to be a 35th reunion next year?

That's unfotunate about you & Michele, U-2 really seemed to be soulmates (that was then, this is now) during that time period we helped move you & her to (or from?) the Albany Towers.
I would also like to reconnect with J.J.'s FOXY sister Laura Johnson (didn't she relocate to Portland about the same time as her bro?).
Laura used to make housecalls-for-haircuts in our kitchen on Montgomery when Oat and I were roomies (rummies?). I would always give Laura a single de-thorned Red Rose for her tip (instead of mine)& she would always return the favor W/a Big Wet KISS!

Did anyone here deviate from the 'norm' of society and their peer's/parent's expectations?
Are you living/feeling comfortably now?

I too am saddened by the death of Mr. Haselden. He was one of those rare, truly inspirational teachers that had a profound effect on my life. I had him for German in his last year at PHS, 1972-73. Through his skills and motivation I went on to study German at college, spend my junior year abroad in Germany, etc. Perhaps also one of the reasons I am still in Europe today. My sincerest condolences to his family.

Mr. Haseldon was committed to making French interesting. He created his own comic strip in French and had us play a precursor to "trivial pursuit" in French. Discipline was never a problem in his class - perhaps we hooligans had exhausted our bag of tricks in Mr. Bethel's and Mr. Bankers classes.

ALL PIEDMONT FOOTBALL ALUMNI - Please go to www.PiedmontFootball.com and check out our newly re-designed football web site. People who register as an "alumni" will get the "Piedmont Gridiron Update" the Wednesday before each game. We are also trying to build a complete database of ex-players for the football program. If you have any photos you can e-mail, we would love to post them in our HISTORY section too. Just e-mail to me. Pass the word to fellow team mates. Thanks! - Steve Humphries, Assistant Varsity Coach

Mike, another night of snow on the central coast. I live in the village & own Economy Cleaners in Sand City. I agree with everyone, but does God, Jesus havce to be here too??? I think we should leave that to our great President Bush and Pat Robertson. We could be in the Dakato's right now. Their goverment has just done such a beatiful thing there that is really only going to affect the poor that cannot go to another state for help. They are doing such a wonderfull job.
Lets keep this open to the Dalai Lama? Budah? Or someone with peace and honesty. My only griep is say who you are!
Love & peace,
me
