HairyNet Guestbook

Welcome to the HairyNet Guestbook Archives for 2001.
Well..it is about that time to use this forum to send out a message to all hairies to wish them a happy holiday season. As always, thanks to Brother Michael DuFloth for setting up and continuing to sponsor this site where us aging ex-PHS veterans can keep in touch and find out what is happening in the lives of others. There are rumors that Mike will be selling banner ads on here soon so make sure to talk to him about some really great deals or he'll be forced to selling ads to Hamby's, Turman's Flying A, and the Sweet Shoppe...Mike has hired former Piedmont Highlander newspaper sales manager, Jay Carlson to hawk the best space. Anyway, please accept my apologies for not making it to the class of '71 reunion party in Berkeley, for any bad calls I may have made at Piedmont football games this year (at least they do not throw beer bottles like in Cleveland) and for not keeping up the tradition of the Coors Cup/Bassett Hound Classic. Now that the kids are bigger, we may have to break it back out again this summer. Please send email to me if you think it makes sense. I understand that Kent Hagen is available to caddy and that John Robertson has been seen playing on the senior buy.com tour for aspiring senior golfers. So, to all, great health in 2002 and remember, once a hairy, always a hairy!

Hey everyone, my daughter advised me today that I've got a new screen name! Seems she accidently deleted my old one(?). It's been great hearing from so many old friends and I promise to drop you a line so you'll have my address. Thought I'd post it here first. Don't know how many "east coasters" (or Virginians) there are out there, but it looks like Tech and UVA have cancelled the rest of their football season this year... Yesterday was pretty pathetic! Anyone know where I could get a copy of the reunion yearbook?????

Yo Conrad: Canary came from me whistling all the time. Couldn't sing so I whistled. The full name as given by the Duke (he is in Ord, Nebraska) was Kirk Canary Bruiser All Around DownTown Ollie Brown. It was too much to write so I went with Charlie as a middle name later on. Glad to hear that you are still involved with the sports of Piedmont. Kim!! I couldn't run and couldn't jump but man could I gun from the outside!! It is really good to hear from you guys. I miss Piedmont Big Time. Moving to Wyoming was a peaceful sort of thing for the family and I. Heck there are less than 500,000 people in the whole state. At 7200 feet it is litle piece of heaven with room to roam. Laramie has the University of Wyoming and about 25,000 people. Rush minute is 5 cars at a signal at 5:00 PM. Laramie is right off I-80 and the door is always open for people traveling East or on the way back home to the West. Talk to you later!! Kirk

Class of '06. They remodeled Witter Field. Spent 25 million dollars. Ripped out the grass, put in Astroturf a month later. Cost us an additional 2 million. The Piedmont Schools have an over-succesful fund-raising program now, and we're completely loaded. Piedmont High just got a new batch of those Apple 733-MHz G4 computers. The "Hairy's"...hmmm.... Did you hear? Eight Piedmont Highschoolers were suspended for doing "inappropriate" lip-sync dances during the annual Piedmont lip-sync competition. Yup.

Ok, Lefty...once in a great while I do have to work for a living but I'll try to pick up the pace here at the HairyNet. Let's see...some alumni action at Piedmont High on friday night. Piedmont won both the JV and Varsity games...being on the field on a warm Friday night is a lot of fun. Did have the opportunity to see Griff Adams, who does videos of the games. I am sure there must have been a call or two I missed along the way that he has footage of...John Cullom, actually a retired football official, dazzled the sidelines in a lovely Hawaiian shirt. Mark Delventhal was also prowling the sidelines near the chain crew. As it was homecoming, they had a very nice crowd but at my age, seeing beyond the field of play is kinda tough...when I went up for a soda at halftime, I am sure I must have seen someone but then I forget things. To answer Kim, yes, left field..yeh, that is it, I am sure of it...yeh, right!!!! Uh, oh, don't put me on Weakest Link--Laramie? I dunno, I had a tough enough time with TV trivia...was it Dean Butler and Delight Slotemaker DeBruine? Perhaps Clint Eastwood? You let me know. By the way was that the first annual Gay and Lesbian and Transgender Pride parade you were at? The Duke...you'll have tocheck with Tom LaFaille or Don Angel. I just know they put silver wings on his chest--he was a Silver Winger...whatever that was. Anyway, other sighting--Tom Paterson at the B of A in Moraga.

Kirk Brown....how's that two-handed push shot these days? I remember you pumping em through the hoop on Don MacFarlanes's driveway... Kirk Brown....What do you do in Laramie? (That was also the name of one of the great cowboy TV shows of all time, as I'm sure you must know) Do you wear boots and a Stetson? Conrad Bassett....trivia - what were the names of the two main characters in "Laramie" I saw them once in costume, on horses in a parade in SF when I was 8 or 9. Conrad Basett....OK, why did they call Estudillo "Duke" (aka "Dukey")...and yes, everyone knows they called me Lefty because I played left field all those years...what else could it be? Conrad Bassett...why the self-imposed exile from Hairy Net? We need you! You lead, we follow. All is forgiven re: not showing up at Henry's for our reunion. *****Alum sitings: Gail Keene in Chico - enjoying a fine meal at the Sierra Nevada Brew Pub. Until next time, Kim G.

Hey Conrad. I think you're right in that "Canary" had origins at Beach School. I believe it's due to his knack at whistling like a bird. Kirk, can you confirm? By the way, the pictures Kirk is referring to are on the new T-Birds Web site. http://members.home.net/hankmore2/tbirds P.S. By the way, thanks for not mentioning my nickname.

San Ramon, CA USA - Tuesday, October 09, 2001 at 17:14:05 (PDT)
I guess if Kirk Brown can make a comeback and show up on the HairyNet then it is time for me to do the same...I still need to know why they called Kirk Brown "Canary" back on the JV baseball team of 1969. I know why they called Kim Gimbal "Lefty" and Rick Estudillo "The Duke" but I have been troubled for many years trying to figure out Canary. Must have been a Beach School thing. For those attending upcoming Piedmont football games in October at the Taj Mahal of high school football stadiums, the referee for the 10/12 JV football game will be yours truly and I will also serve as the back judge for the varsity game. If I survive those two tilts, I return for the 10/25 freshman game as the referee. Coach Muenter still rolls his eyes in his head every time he hears that of the class of '70, the only one still on the gridiron is me...and today I get more on field time in one quarter than I did in four years 30+ years ago. For those who have not attended games in a while, it is a good place for sightings of ex-PHS alumni you have not seen in quite a while.

Now that Labor Day has passed I can officially state that the highlight of the summer was the Class of '71 reunion. Kudos to Carl Borden for his organizational skills and dedication of time and to Debbie Bartlett, (maiden names only) Debbie Holden, Gail Keene, Maryly Hayes and all the others for all their help. Also to the band - our own boys know how to make the music: Scott Pressman, Dan Beck, Kim Gimbal, Doug Duncan, Hank Moreira, Kent Hagen, Russ Milenbach, Carl Borden, Scott Bowhay, Christoph Guttentag (a quick study on T-Bird moving and shaking) and John Schroder, whose keyboard work was terrific. If our class stands for anything its how good the music can make you feel and we sure had it going that night. Thanks again, guys. We're looking forward to June 2006, when the Classes of '70, '71 and '72 will get together at the Veteran's Hall again to hear you all again. And yes, it is true that I got into big trouble when the All-Nighter Club was kicked out of King's X on Piedmont Avenue and reconvened at my folks house to sing oldies until 5:45 a.m. But all is forgiven and the remembrance of one helluva a good night remains. Had a great time seeing everyone again and look forward to getting together in 2006 (if not sooner.) Zook

The Class of '71's 30th reunion was the best yet! All three events were professionally planned and carried out beautifully. Everything, from the appetizers to the music, was excellent. Yet the best part was just seeing everyone again! Thank you Carl and Zook! I'll have to say that the T-Birds, among others, were in their finest form. The house was rocking and rolling. Perhaps at the next reunion we can get other talented folks to perform onstage. I'd love to hear Debi Richman sing the Campbell's Soup jingle, just like she did on KYA sometime in 1974 or 1975. After hearing Debi's rendition of the jingle, I thought we'd have another famous person come out of PHS. She did a great job. It would be a hoot to hear her or any other talent, in addition to the T-Birds, perform in 2006!

Man-O-Man...what a weekend! The PHS Class of '71 30 year reunion was the best! Thanks to Carl and Garret for organizing this perfect event. I just wrote Conrad Basset about it. Part of my message follows here: ...... We partied like maniacs fri nite at henry's bar in berkeley...the sat. nite at the vet's hall was fabulous...the t birds played; then we jammed. we had onstage: kim gimbal, doug duncan, danny beck, scott pressman, kent hagen, hank moreira, scott bowhay, carl borden, christoph guttentag, russ milenbach, carl resnikoff; and john schroder. music became the magic, just like it's supposed to. it was truly amazing...then down to kings X till they kicked us out...then over to gary sutton's parents' house on la salle where about a dozen of us sang and danced until 5:30 AM....as the dunc says...a true "amaze-o" then hampton field yesterday for the picnic...just an unbelievable time...everyone looks great and the vibes were excellent... ok for now...lefty ps...on sat. duncan and i went down to the new piedmont professional sports complex...doug allowed himself to revel in his old glory just a bit. while on the field he found the spot where one of his big plays began, then proceeded to go through the moves of an unbelievable catch and touchdown...then i showed him the exact spot where i broke my leg...all the stuff of legend now...........love to all...KIM

I just kind of stumbled across this page. It was pretty cool to see names of folks that I haven't seen in 27 years. I have always marvelled at people to whom High School seems to represent some of the happiest days of their lives and for whom the experience still resonates after more than a quarter century. That's great. BTW, I don't recall having ever heard the term "Hairy" or "Hairy Lawn"--but that could well have been an "on the bus/off the bus" kind of thing. Rick

The 30th Reunion of Piedmont High School Class of '71 will be the weekend of Aug. 3 - 5. Please disregard prior messages below about it. Buzz Thunen's building a Web site devoted to our class and the reunion. Go to http://www.unf.edu/~bthune/71reunion/ Here's how it's shaping up so far: Evening of Friday, Aug. 3rd: Harry's Bar, 2600 Durant, Berkeley. No-host reunion kickoff. Alumni from other PHS classes welcome. This will be a no-cost event. Evening of Saturday, Aug. 4: Piedmont Veteran's Hall; hosted bar; catered heavy hors d'oeuvres (about 12 apiece, acccording to the caterer we're probably going to use, Fresh Catering; we're open to your suggestions about what to serve; go to http://www.freshcatering.com/cateringbayarea/cateringmenus/horsdoeuvres1.htm for the items available). The T-Birds will play, and an ad hoc band of alumni musicians will play a few dance numbers. In between will be vintage music (mid 60s to very early 70s). We're hoping for at least 100 attendees (alumni plus their spouses/dates/whatever). This will probably cost about $60 per attendee. Late morning - early afternoon, Sunday, Aug. 5: Barbecue family picnic at Hampton Sports Field (assuming adequate interest is shown; about 50 persons ought to be enough). We're thinking we'll arrange to have a trailer grill brought in like we did for the 20th reunion. (Does anyone remember who provided it then? I think it was Jim Hammerel, but I'm not sure.) If we have to rent a trailer grill, then obviously that cost would have to be taken into account. But unlike at the 20th reunioun, we're leaning toward asking attendees to bring and grill their own items, plus bring their own other food and beverage items. That would be easier on the organizers, and attendees could decide what they want to eat and drink and how much to spend for it. (I recall that after the 20th reunion I ended up dumping at least a half keg of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale; the memory still pains me.) We'll provide cooking and eating utensils, paper plates, condiments and burger fixings (sliced tomatoes, onions, etc.) This should cost about $5 per attendee. (If someone has a large family, perhaps the cost could be capped at about $15.) Anyway, as you can see, this is still in the formative stage. Your thoughts and suggestions are appreciated. Finally, we're revising the Class of '71 mailing list in anticipation of a postal mailing in April. If you e-mail me a request for a copy of the mailing list, I'll e-mail you one for your review. You should then e-mail me any changes for yourself or for our classmates that need be made to the list. Classmate e-mail addresses would be greatly appreciated, too.

Hey Duke! You really need to have a reunion of the silverwingers. And the Coors Cup (eventually the Bassett Hound Gof Classic) should be brought back. Sadly, it was a Piedmont institution from 1973 through 1990 when it met its demise when I moved to Connecticut where they only play golf about two months a year. Now that I am back in California it probably is appropriate to reinstate it after a ten year hiatus. I just need to make sure I can still get pony kegs at New Rex that Doug Duncan can finish if the golfers can't; get Kent Hagen to give up carrying Tiger Woods' bag and caddy again for Steve Merriam; arrange for Pete Horner to get us good media coverage in Golf Digest, and to hope that all of the golf pros at the local courses have all moved on so that no one remembers how many courses we trashed in those 18 years. Are there any new courses that we can play on? Green fees have probably gone up and a cart would be mandatory because we are all so old we probably could not walk 18 holes even if we had a tail wind. I do believe we could get the Exalted Leader of the Hairy Brethren and Sisteren, Mike DuFloth, to host the post tournament celebration and poker tourney. Glad to hear there is still a "Duke" on the gridiron. If I was officiating a Nebraska game, I'd have to throw a flag on him in lieu of some penalty you got away with 30 years ago.

Zook..Thanks for all your info on the reunion. It seems to me that the main reason for this get together is to see everyone and catch up on the last 10 years, so the no host cocktails Fri,the dancing & party Sat, and the BBQ the next day as a potluck type venue sound good to me. I have another event going on that same weekend, also up in the bay area, which I am helping to organize, and with which I will also incur quite some expense, so my budget is limited. Anyone else who has any comments pro or con on this, your input would be appreciated by me, and by Zook as well I'm sure. Also, I'm willing to do some E-mail correspondence, etc to try to help expedite this, Zook, so let me know via E-mail, and I'll let you know what I can handle. Thanks for the reunion info, Zook. I like the idea of the no host cocktails Fri, party & dancing (minus dinner) on Sat. and the picnic with bring you own on Sun. I have another event I am helping plan that same weekend, also in the bay area, and I will incur quite some expense in the process, so my budget is minimal for the reunion. It seems to me that the main goal here anyway, is to get together and catch up on the past 10 years. I'm willing to help with E-mail correspondence, and whatever else I can fit in to help expedite the planning process for this, so let me know via E-mail. Also, anybody else who has any preferences pro or con on the ideas Zook presented, I would appreciate you input, as I'm sure he would. Let's get this to happen, Class of '71!!

I'm not trying to discourage the people who want the fancy dinner, etc, and those who want to do so can surely line up dinner arrangements, as you suggested, at a restaurant in the area.My financial comfort zone for this doesn't include the frivolities because I have another event going on that same weekend, also up in the bay area, with which I will also incur quite some expense. Katie, thanks for your comments. I share your concern. Thanks to all the Class of '71 members who have emailed me regarding the reunion. Here is an update. I just received the contract from the Claremont. They want a $2,500 deposit by April 18th and $9,250 by June 18th. This can be done, of course, if enough people are willing to pony up in the near future. However, price is an issue for some, as Carl Borden and the rest of the committee experienced for the 20th and as Katie found for their 30th. What we're trying to do, I believe, is to get as many people together as possible. We shouldn't allow price to be a deciding factor for some. I've received comments from Carl and Kim and others and taken all together they are as follows: Get together Friday nite August 18th at a place like Henry's for no host cocktails. People can hook up and make their own dinner plans for Saturday night. We then all meet at 8 p.m. Saturday night for a party with dancing. We either have a DJ or a band and the T-Birds can play if they want. If this is at a club somewhere it can be no host cocktails. If we rent a room people can bring their own. On Sunday for the BBQ at Hampton we'll provide a grill and people can bring their own burgers, dogs, sodas and beer and maybe a pot luck salad or dessert dish. The cost for all this is going to be involve getting a room Saturday nite, hiring a DJ or band and paying for Hampton and a grill. The per head charge could fall from $120 (or $150 if fewer people are interested) to between $25 and $40 per person. Let me know what you think....Also, of note: Sue Witter Phillips' son plays rugby for the University of Nevada here in Reno. Last week he scored four tries (touchdowns) against San Jose State. The boy can play... Hope to keep hearing from all of you. Zook

Hey Katie, Thanks for the info about your reunion. It's a good reality check. Too bad the band sucked! Garret Zook, I was talking to Carl Borden the other day and we thought it might be good to have a DJ and a makeshift PHS band that could do T-Birds and other songs. I think that would be cheaper and gives us a lot more flexibility in the music department. I'm sure we could provide our own equipment. Also, I thought the room at the Claremont was a great setting last time. It would be great to have it there again if we can afford it. Hank

Zook be careful... we had our 30th last year and started planning it a more than a year in advance. Unfortunantly we had a lot of problems with the price of the reunion. Ours was $123.00 per per person: this included Claremont Country Club, flowers, hors d'oeuvres, two bottles of wine on each table, food, bartender, bagpiper, photographer, yearbook and band. We got so much crap about the price it was unreal! Our turnout was less than 150 people. My suggestion is to have it at Piedmont Community Center or the place next to the fire house and make it a pot luck...it will save you a lot of heartache. Katie Moreira

Another note to the Class of '71. I was concerned about making reservations in enough time so I made some calls today. The Claremont Resort for the Saturday night dinner/dance and Hampton Field for the Sunday BBQ were both booked for the weekend of August 25-26. However, both are available for the weekend of August 18-19. I've got them both reserved but we are going to have to make some decisions pretty soon. The Claremont wants a deposit of $2,500 in the next two weeks to hold the date. In terms of price, the Claremont is not cheap. We have to pay $2,000 for the room, which is the same one we had for the 20th and featured a good stage for a band to play from. We also have to guarantee a total of $16,500 in food and beverage. The three course dinners run about $45 per person. So with 200 people we'd use $9,000 up in food. This would leave us to drink up $7,500 in alcohol. My guess is that that will not be a problem. When you factor in a band and other expenses, including the Sunday BBQ (if people are up for it), with 200 people attending-a thoroughly speculative number-we're looking at about $110 per head. If only 150 people attend the per person charge will be about $145. Is this too expensive? Let me know because, as mentioned, we've got to make some decisions soon. Also, at the 20th many of us got together Friday night for cocktails. I've talked to some friends from the Class of '70 and '72 and they may want to join us this time for the Friday night kick-off. Perhaps at Henry's in the Hotel Durant in Berkeley. Let me know your thoughts on this type of event. Any and all comments are welcome. Give me a call at (775) 324-4100. If I'm on the phone be sure and leave a voice mail. Zook

Greetings to all Class of '71 grads. Yes, we have not become so aged that we have neglected to recall that 2001 minus 1971 equals 30th reunion. I have received calls from Kim Gimbal and Carl Borden inquiring about the status of it all and I am ready, able and willing for someone to step forward and plan the whole thing. Absent such an unlikely event I am most willing to accept the help of anyone who is interested. Call me in Reno at work at (775) 324-4100. (Who made up the rule that the senior class president has to do this for the rest of his life?) Anyway, an informal survey indicates that Saturday, August 25th may be a good date for the event. Also, we may want to consider having a band (instead of a DJ) so that the T-Birds could play if they wanted to do so. Also, Kim Gimbal says there are companies that can plan these events. Are people willing to pay a little extra for that service? You know what my vote will be. So, hopefully a few of you can give me your thoughts and we'll get started. All my best, Gary or Zook or whatever you want to call me.

Aw Sue, I knew you'd come through. Ok everybody, (for those of us who are technologically challanged) how do we go about setting up our class of '71 reunion page, like the '70-ers had (still have). Does Mike Duf do that? Conrad or Katie, can you tell us how you got things launched? Let's start logging in all names, addresses, phone #s and email addresses asap. Looks like, for the class of '70, people fed all addresses to Katie and she built the mailing list. Or is it possible to have a page where any of us could just go to it and log in all names and addresses from our own address books? Don't know how all this might work, seeing as how I'm not particularly website savy. But if people want to start feeding me addresses immediately, I'll at least get a list going that I can plug into the site once we get a page up. Let's just get started!!! I've also emailed Margie Betts, Susie Thiel, Ann McKee, and Noel Atwood and asked them to check in to the site...betcha they'll be surfacing soon. Anybody have ideas for a reunion location this summer? We would need to reserve right away! Gawd, I'm sounding like your reunion nazi...don't mean to. Just want to get the reunion ball rolling and get a committee formed. Belinda Brimhall, check in. You sounded interested in organizing???!!

I didn't even realise a reunion was already upon us until Michelle Wells emailed me. Would like to help if anyone would like to head it up. Who still lives in Piedmont (or nearby) from 71? Three of my four kids are graduating from their various schools (college, high school and middle) so I'll be pretty busy this spring and will be gone most of the summer. Did anyone contact Debbie Bartlett? I think she lives in Orinda and is married to Jeff Anderson.

Someone needs to get on the phone and call Gary Sutton about the '71 reunion. Katie Wood, would you please do that!...The 20th was organized by Sue Witter, John Chovanes, Debbie Bartlett, Carl Borden and I don't remember who else. I have not seen any of these people out here on the hairy website. Thus, phone calls are in order. I will help too, but we need a leader. Scott Pressman, maybe now is the time for you to rise to occasion. Jim Rafton where are you? Sam Nicholson, where are you? Gail Keene, where are you? Wendy Rutledge, where are you? Josie McAuliffe, where are you? Janice Gherra, where are you, Joy Raichart, where are you? Jim Kelley, where are you? Mike Glicksman, where are you, and Cheryl Miller, where are you? Kerry Pencovic, where are you? Lee Saye, where are you? Dave Furino, where are you?

Hey '71 Hairies. I'm so glad Noel Atwood Yaeger just checked in with me and gave me the site again, since it seems I temporarily misplaced it for a couple of years. So it looks like a lot of us want to have a 30 year reunion (this summer maybe?) but no sign of organization yet. Shall we form a reunion committee like, immediately? I'd be happy to do what I from here (Texas) via email. Who in the Bay Area is willing to jump in? We'll need to move fast to reserve space at this point, unless we've got a filthy rich grad who would be willing to let us have a blow-out party at his/her Piedmont mansion. Ya know, just like old times.

Found...1954 Clan=O=Rama from Piedmont High School. (Yearbook)

Mom throw your yearbook out years ago? Lost in a family move? Damaged in the flood of 1988? Maybe an ex-spouse 'ditched' it?

If you are missing a 1954 annual, please contact me.

Lefty...ever since completing my stint on the Ronn Owens show as an expert on Rock Trivia on KGO about 15 years ago and getting trounced at the Kings X in a trivia competition, I found that trying to make my living as a professional on the game show circuit would have to take a back seat to a real day job. I have called in and usually make it to the second round but I never do get the call back--sort of like Jay Carlson after a first date with someone--he never got the call back. Speaking of Carlson, I have an answer to Bartlett trivia...Debbie Bartlett is in Lafayette where she married Jay Carlson's brother-in-law. Laurie Bartlett was last sighted in Utah where she had been chief legal counsel for Iomega (the ones who make those handy, dandy zip drives...) Manny Myers was the track coach at Acalanes for many years, I believe and is now helping out at old PHS...yes, Clint Eastwood was in Piedmont for awhile in the early 50s (I think he lived in that big house between Wisteria, Woodland, and Wildwood Gardens) and then finished up at Tech. Eric Bjornsen, tight end of the Dallas Cowboys went to O'Dowd but I thing he was from Piedmont. So, there you go. If you see me on millionaire you'll be a lifeline for music kinda stuff and if I win the big dough, I'll sponsor the next Super Bowl Luncheon so Karsant does not have to!

Debbie Richman where are you? Sue Witter where are you? Debbie Bartlett where are you? John Chovanes, where are you? Carl Borden, where are you? Manny Myers, where are you? I attended Castlemont High class of 65. I actually graduated from Alameda High, but everyone I grew up with attended Castlemont I attended 2 years and 1 year at Alameda for my last year. I have never been contacted by either school for any type of re union. I would very much like to attend either. Anyone with info can please contact Bruce Woods.

I disagree that Brad Gilbert is the most famous one from Piedmont. There has got to be someone else then that loser. He is a washed up tennis has been riding the coat tails of someone who isn't...working in a bookstore I had the displeasure of seeing his ill selling book. The cover is graced with his ugly mug with the same asshole smirk..funny how some things never change.

Most famous person to graduate from Piedmont High would be Brad(t) Gilbert, Brat tennis star turned bratty coach/guru. Sad, but true...

to my own personal knowledge, other than jimmy polse, i would have to say steve flegal is probably the most famous person to have gone to p.h.s.(not sure if graduated is the right word here). this ofcourse includes his extenuating circumstance, having lived in chico for a short, yet vivid, time.i do think jimmy passsed thru chico also, although i would like to hear from other first hand sources... it's all so cloudy...

Other famous Highlanders: Dean Butler '74 played "Almanzo" on Little House on the Prairie (and was in a TV movie playing Gary Coleman's roommate); a guy named Monte Poole, I think, held the high school long jump record for about twenty years. Gertrude Stein also spent time in Piedmont, but later said "there is no Hair there."

The most famous person ever to graduate from Piedmont High...well...up through my tenure that ended in 1970, probably former cabinet member under Kennedy, Robert McNamara, the Secretary of Defense...but then perhaps under an alias, Jim Polse may have accomplished things we are not aware of. There have been a few professional athletes, actors (Clint Eastwood attended Piedmont but I believe he finished up at Oakland Tech). Let's have more submissions.

I couldn't get my E-mail to go through to ClassEncounters. I think that they either have went out of business or do not want to respond. They owe me class reunion pictures that I paid for but never received.
